Seattleites crave trains
The War on Drugs was bad in that criminalizing simple drug use or possession is bad rather than helping people get into treatment when they're ready for it (for hard drugs) but convicting people who commit serious crimes like murder or arson is good. The details of the conviction are important.
Yep I'm aware of this story. I hope Shi gets a large payout from the city for falsely arresting him. Unfortunately we can't prevent all cases of mistaken identity. The city needs to put the right policies in place to try and minimize this from happening.
No. Cameras are good if people who commit serious crimes are convicted. Cameras should not be used to arrest random people.
Yes definitely. Camera evidence is definitely much better than eyewitness reports which are known to be unreliable. There is the case however of SPD arresting the wrong guy and then holding him for months because of camera footage. www.kuow.org/stories/seat...
Also obviously there's a trade off between "we can solve all crime by putting a camera on every street corner" vs "we can solve crimes where they are most likely to be committed by putting cameras at specific locations".
I think the challenge the mayor has is to prove that the cameras don't aid in solving crimes which I think is incredibly difficult to prove.
There's a difference between cameras preventing crimes and solving them. I don't think the city has evidence that the cameras are preventing crimes but SPD loves to post on the Blotter that cameras have aided in solving crimes. Here's one from a few weeks ago spdblotter.seattle.gov/2026/03/26/t...
Can someone tell Dow to update the Sound Transit ridership dashboard?
How to make sure you're always working. Stretch your work out.
Sound Transit CEO Dow Constantine just announced that 205,000 riders boarded trains on the opening day of the Crosslake Connection, a number that's second only to the Super Bowl Parade.
Even though it's mostly cloudy Mount Rainier is visible in the window of a 2 Line train.
Mountain picture from this morning. The view never gets old.
Commute back home is pretty packed. There's a Mariners home game that people are headed to. Currently leaving Mercer Island.
Nearly empty 2 line train headed to Downtown Redmond
Commuting to Redmond today, right after CID the train is pretty empty
Enjoying a beer at Roanoke Inn on Mercer Island.
Went to Roanoke Inn on Mercer Island. As expected with rich "nice" areas there was no sidewalk on the way there.
A fairly empty Mercer Island station
Mercer Island station 7 hours after opening. Crowd is gone.
6 hours in. Trains at the new stations are still packed. Operators are still telling people to wait for the next train.
How long do you think the 2 Line connection line is at Judkins Park on Opening Day in Seattle?
Got on at U District, train is now packed at Judkins

I was joking that every train on the system was going to fill up but the line at Judkins still goes to the end of the park 90 minutes after the station opened 😳
I think I have an idea that will solve the ST3 financial crisis…
Judkins Park station sign with train times turned on
The sign is on at Judkins!
T-12 hours to trains
I've watched Benn's video before. I've skeeted this video previously. bsky.app/profile/golf...
You can see Flock cameras on this map. The only Flock cameras are operated by Lowe's and Home Depot. deflock.org/map#map=11/4...
Seattle doesn't use Flock cameras. It's not good for people opposed to the cameras to not even know who makes the Seattle's cameras and provides the infrastructure.
This is actually insane. However browsing Andreesen's recent tweets it looks like he's going through a form of AI psychosis.
So...do I put snow tires on my bike today?
