There's a stillness at the heart of Early Music that I'm finding quite addictive, at the moment.

Lovely tape on Galaxy Train. I could listen to this all day. Thanks to @francarlyon.bandcamp.com for the tip!

Hello

Enjoying this tape from Jon Collin's Early Music. This kind of intimate music sounds perfect on cassette.

I never listened to this at the time, which seems strange to me now given how much I'd enjoyed Where You Been. But I'm really falling for it today. On my third listen.

The fourth song on VERSE is called DANCER. I originally recorded a song with these lyrics when I was making ALONE IN A FIELD, but there was something not quite right with it (I don't know what) so I thought I'd have another go.

The third song on VERSE is called POSITIVE. I wrote the lyrics at a viewpoint I hadn't visited since childhood. My favourite line ('There's nothing more realistic than real life') was something that J said that I quickly wrote down before I forgot.

There's not much going on musically in the town I live, apart from these excellent jazz nights that are held in an upstairs room, formerly used by the Wessex Magical Association, in a local pub. Last night it was Mali Sheard's Homestead, a young band from the Tomorrow's Warriors stable. Good stuff!

The second song on VERSE is called GIRLS' FACES. It was inspired by seeing a man who had girls' faces tattooed on the back of his legs. It's about feeling sad for no reason.

FOREST TIME
Haven't listened to these for a while. Still sounds fresh.
Haven't heard the others, but this would be hard to top!
Never listened to The Undertones beyond Teenage Kicks but was inspired to give this one a try after reading about it in Debsey Wykes' Dolly Mixture book. After the first listen I was nonplussed, but after the second I was hooked!

Went through a period in the late 10s of being fascinated by coloured vinyl, before deciding on a hunch that black vinyl sounded better and avoiding it entirely. This is one of the more elaborate ones. And Cate Le Bon's best, in my opinion.
