Anat Rubin and I co-wrote a story for @calmatters.org about the people behind Sheriff Chad Bianco's "election investigation" -- sovereign citizens, Christian nationalists, and "constitutional sheriffs."

horseshoe theory is real. leftists almost got kat abughazaleh elected into congress and now it comes out that her boyfriend owns infowars…
There are many reasons I believe in the separation of Church and State and "you can't disagree with the head of state, that's against theology" is probably the most prominent "absolutely not" scenario.
just Roberts appointing himself wizard-king of the US
A small cohort of ("prominent"?) law professors are trying to portray John Eastman as some kind of innocent victim of viewpoint discrimination, and his disbarment as some kind of assault on the First Amendment.
That's complete and utter bollocks. As usual, @gabrielmalor.bsky.social brings receipts:
How We Brought Respectful Debate Back to The Harvard Crimson’s Editorial Board
To us, the solution is deceptively simple. Universities should create environments where students with different views must talk to one another routinely and establish ground rules that ensure they do so without distractions or prejudgment. Illiberalism on college campuses isn’t inevitable. At The Crimson, it took only a few months to radically improve.
I will never understand how American elites managed to convince themselves that uncivil debate — not fascism, not impunity and not widespread indifference to facts — is the defining problem of our time.

To put in perspective how blatant this is, the Alberta government tried stacking the EBC to gerrymander the new maps.
They created a new committee when their chosen appointees failed to cooperate and had them commission a ‘minority report’.
Now they’ve scrapped the EBC’s report.
A chart showing the decline in newspaper jobs since 2007, with every single year starting lower than the year before. From about 350k in Jan 2007 to about 78.4K in 2026
I have been thinking about this chart for months, and basically reference it any time someone asks me what's going on with journalism nowadays

not many people know this, but Barilla has a line of 3D printed pasta it sells mostly to the fine dining industry. I don't want the pasta. I want the pasta printer
learning that Israel is one of the main suppliers of the fluoride that gets added to our water supply is like the Super Bowl for conspiracy theorists
When we take back power, I do not want unity or healing, I want revenge.
I also don't want a lecture on "but that's just like Trump, he wanted revenge." He was wrong, we are right. It's different. Get a moral compass.
Revenge or sit down. Call it "justice" if you must, it's that too.
there’s a reason we have diplomats and ambassadors and foreign services and do not simply conduct international negotiations by off the cuff social media posts
the new system we have is not “disruptive” it is not “bold” it is not “unorthodox” it is “tremendously fucking stupid”
Certainly not everyone will agree with me here but I think that ultimately a good person is a person who does good things and a bad person is a person who does bad things, and when you create conditions that make it easy or profitable for people to do the latter, you make them bad.
The matter-of-fact way she asks what investors should do if Trump destroys Iran. Absolutely wild.
"Let's talk about tonight, this deadline that President Trump has set 8 p.m., has threatened to destroy a civilization. How does an investor process that? Is it a bigger upside risk or downside risk?"
Read the story. Not a peep that the PCBs came from general electric. They just happened to be in the river and were now magically lowered.
“They’re destroying more than fifty research facilities across thirty-one states, labs that house decades of irreplaceable long-term science…And they’re replacing all of it — the offices, the scientists, the institutional knowledge, the professional independence — with fifteen political appointees”
when we're all unable to connect to use the internet, send emails, pay our bills, use our toasters, and god knows what else if AWS goes down, i want you to know now that i blame our lack of antitrust laws far more than i'll blame a foreign missile

Gotta watch a lot of Herzog before they leave Criterion at the end of the month
what next? what, are we gonna provide *roads* for the wealthy too? gonna have health inspectors keep contaminants out of their groceries? are we just gonna have gutters and sewer systems around rich people's homes?
Discord's April Fools' joke was that they added an integrated browser game into the app and I genuinely didn't realise it was meant to be a joke because I'm so used to them jamming in bullshit features I immediately ignore
the trump administration is selling this country wholesale to rapacious, extractive industries that will destroy our collective resources for private profit morethanjustparks.substack.com/p/breaking-t...
well, here we go
George C. Scott at the Doctor Strangelove premiere, realizing Kubrick only used the goofy takes.
I thought you were joking.
ah shoot I was going to grab it. What’s messed up?
sometimes i consume problematic media and i simply avoid posting about it asking for strangers on the internet to validate my moral character because i'm an adult
