They likely didn’t know, I’ve worked for companies doing contract work before and while I wasn’t doing art, when it comes to the HR side of things and who gets brought in or let go it’s largely by the company you’re working through as opposed to the one your contractor has a contract with.

If I had to guess, if AEW are reducing their partnership with PWT and the demand for designs that they previously had, than PWT probably felt it no longer made sense to have a staff dedicated to designing AEW stuff and maybe couldn’t afford to retain them and have them work on other projects

This part of the PWT quote is interesting though “except that we unfortunately told some of our contracted designers that we would not need them for as many AEW designs anymore.” Like why wouldn’t they need as many AEW designs as they did previously?

Just seems like the logistics of pro wrestling shows and touring bands are a lot more similar, and such a company would be better equipped to handle both online and in person merch sales.

Ya like if they are working through PWT its possible that there would be legal issues with taking some of their artists who’d likely have some sort of agreement with PWT, but I don’t know the logistics that’d be something to ask PWT, the artists, or AEW but they may not even be able to speak on it🤷‍♂️

Ya I kinda figured out after this one that the artists were likely contracted through PWT rather than directly by AEW

One of the artists said that it wasn’t a PWT decision, but if AEW is no longer working with PWT than I’d presume that would include all the artists who contract through PWT. I’m kinda waiting to see what they are actually planning to do before I make up my mind about it.

Still kinda hoping that this is just a really clunky and poorly communicated transition, and that they will at least offer the contracted artists that they’ve been using jobs once they’ve transitioned everything over.

I’m surprised you were, given you don’t seem to understand that verifying a quote that is being presented as a stand alone quote just means confirming that they said it and accurately transcribing what was said.

If they’re sharing a quote and saying that it’s a quote than all they would need to verify is that the person said what they are saying they said, deeper verification is something that is only required for full stories on things like the TKO merger, or the Janel Grant case.

Don’t a lot of reporters just take quotes from sources, and I’m not even talking about wrestling, like sports/ entertainment reporters etc?
