Wonderful time in Australia! 🇦🇺
At #ASNAC2025 I presented my work on missing data in network autocorrelation models and had great exchanges with the ANSNA community. I visited UniMelb, Swinburne, and UNSW (Seed Fund UC–UNSW), and presented at the University of Sydney @chisocnet.bsky.social

So glad to share this new episode of Knitting Networks, featuring Tom A. B. Snijders, a mentor for many of us and one of the most inspiring minds in our field. 🌐
A conversation about bridges between mathematics, sociology, and network modelling.
In this episode, we discuss how culture and cognition shape network ties, the value of data science, and how sociology can bridge structure and meaning.
Hosted by @aespinosarada.bsky.social & @franciscaortizruiz.bsky.social

5/n Curious how social and cognitive structures shape scientific knowledge?

4/n 📌 Highlights:
– Citations favor recent & cognitively consistent work
– Tight coauthoring groups are co-cited more often
– Citation behavior is not just individual: it’s embedded in collaboration networks
3/n Our data: Chilean astronomers (2013–2015)
🔧 Method: Relational Hyperevent Model (captures group-based events like coauthoring and citing)
💡 Key insight: Coherent groups of coauthors are more likely to be co-cited together — social structure reinforces cognitive links.
2/n We ask: Why do researchers cite what they cite?
Beyond content relevance, we consider how social ties (coauthorship) and cognitive continuity shape citation choices.
Think of citation as the tip of a longer collaborative and intellectual process.
1/n The before mentioned paper uses a Group-Oriented Relational Hyperevent Model to explore how collaboration networks shape citation behavior among researchers.
Title: “Socio-cognitive networks between researchers”
Interesting, we reached similar results in previous research:: doi.org/10.1016/j.so... and doi.org/10.1016/j.so...
