The greatest impacts would be experienced in nutrient-rich, pollinator-dependent crops: fruits, vegetables and oilseeds, which are exactly the foods that are crucial for a healthy diet.
The global annual welfare loss could reach €34 billion, with consumers bearing much of the burden.

🐛 🦋 What would Europe look like without wild pollinators?
A collapse in wild pollinators across Europe could mean a 8% drop in crop yields, a sharp rise in the prices of foods and consequences extending far beyond Europe through trade, land-use change and food insecurity.

PhD opportunity in ecology, biogeochemistry & evolutionary biology.
I am looking for a PhD candidate to join a research project on how animals cope with nutritionally imbalanced food and how this shapes matter cycling in ecosystems.
We have a vacancy for a PhD Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities @vitenskapsteori.bsky.social

40% de especies de abejas y 16,5% de polinizadores vertebrados podrían estar amenazados, lo que amenaza a su vez la vida que conocemos. 🌍
Pronta acción podría contribuir a revertir esto.

The new James Cameron-produced NatGeo documentary "Secrets of the Bees" is out tomorrow. I hope it's good - our bees and team members are in it, but I haven't seen the final product yet. Here's a trailer.
It’s actually tomorrow! Make the most of this opportunity to find out about the latest developments in bee research🐝🐝
Animal pollination emerged 280 million years ago. Currently, 90% of flowering plant species, including most crops, require animals to maximize their reproduction. However, human-induced rapid environmental change is threatening these mutualistic interactions.

🌍 How do pollinators, people, and landscapes connect across Europe?
Our new deliverable offers a powerful starting point. “Territorial diagnosis and Living Lab formulation” (D7.1) lays the groundwork for turning knowledge on pollinators into action.

Denis Michez (Mons University) follows up at the @safeguard-pollinators.eu final meeting by updating us on the status of wild bees and hover flies across Europe #bee 🐝 🦋 🪰 - key message, we now have distributional data to underpin conservation strategies for wild bees and hover flies across Europe

🚁➡️🐝 A drone needs a data link and remote computing. A honey bee does not.
With a brain smaller than a sesame seed, a honey bee makes rapid, context-sensitive decisions while flying. Efficient intelligence is not the same thing as more computation and bees are a striking reminder of that.
