Both the original BB blogpost, and some of the people replying here, keep pushing this line that they somehow know that continental authors are being intentionally vague. Weird assertion!

Just goin off the dome here but that also sounds like a middle class thing? some career you're invested in as opposed to it being just a job. I broke up with people and had to figure out how to keep working with them before I became a professor too! I didn't quit a job just because my ex was there.

I never worked in a place or was around people who think this until I entered middle class academia as faculty. As someone who worked for years in food service and other jobs and dates classmates even in grad school it is totally alien and silly as hell to me.

Excluding the "especially in politics" bit, I'm generally baffled by people insisting you should categorically abstain from meaningful life activities like romance or sex with coworkers, people who share a space/activity with you for a large part of your week. Could it be messy? Yea. But that's life

I write things that are meaningful to me, & dont expect them to be the most popular. But I would be lying if I said I wasnt happy to get an email saying my paper "Beyond gatekeeping: Philosophical sources, Indigenous philosophy, and the Huarochirí Manuscript" is one of last year's most cited papers.

Just saw an AI image of Habermas. It gave him a prominent moustache, which I thought was odd cuz, I thought, Habermas never had a moustache. Googled him and it turns out he has a moustache in tons of photos. In my slight defense its small and sparse so hard to notice, but still, what the fuck

This is one of my favorite genres of posts. My favorite in the genre is warning about Elon Musk. We on the socialist left had naively trusted a billionaire.

Previous personal best for late rejection shattered. UW-Madison rejected me in Feb 2025 for a job I applied for in Oct 2023. Not to be outdone, UNC-Chapel Hill just responded today to my Oct 2023 app.

The pop socket money treated them well. He loaned out his fancy chalet in Breckenridge to some conference attendees last year. My partner was there for a couple days before learning it was his, she'd been wondering how the conference could afford it lol
