Ja! If Lefty were a physical book I'd love to include illustrations for reference. Maybe with some notes to accompany them. Something to make use of all the world building stuff that doesn't make it into the text itself. Kind of how Stormlight Archive does it.

In the end I usually err on the side cutting tangents.
I'm sure some readers would be fascinated to learn how the people in Legend of Lefty tame and ride the giant squirrels, but it's simply not important to the plot. Better to just mention it off hand and let them imagine it themselves.
One of the more interesting challenges you face when writing a fantasy story is deciding what's relevant.
In most genres you don't want to spend a lot of time on mundane background details.
But many people come to fantasy for the world building. They want to hear about daily life in an alien world.
Perhaps. But I haven't the slightest clue who the right audience for my story is.

Yeah, but "I worked very hard on this" isn't a very good selling point. I need to offer the audience something they want, and I don't know what they want.
Or rather, I know they want trendy things like Love Triangle & LitRPG elements, which my book doesn't have.
Making someone sound good to an employer is relatively easy. They are looking for hard workers with skills, so that's what you emphasize.
When it comes to novels, it feels like most people are just looking for escapist entertainment, which isn't what my book is.
Yeah, but a lot of that art is designed from the ground up to be a product. It's made with an audience in mind so it's easy to pitch it to that audience.
The hardest part of being a writer is the marketing.
I don't know how to sell my book, because it's not a product to me; it's art.
