Things like this typically have a very mixed bag of speakers, but that's arguably a good reason to go and try to make the case for a more serious take on the issues one cares about.

People generally don't do this for the money. The year I was there they paid for two nights of a hotel room in Finchley, that was about it. I was going to be in the area anyway, for a conference and giving a public talk in Oxford.
