✅ Change from “presumptive” to “potential” noncitizens acknowledging SAVE can be faulty
✅ Include sources on how voters are flagged
✅ An expanded timeline to respond to notices
✅ Additonal state checks to affirm the flag
✅ Account for name changes utilizing the existing voter ID process rules
BREAKING: Your 15,000 comments on “presumptive noncitizens” submitted to the NCSBE made a difference.
A fresh version of the rules just dropped and this is what we got 👇
“The screams and cries of those murdered little girls, from Alabama to Iran, echo in the silence of a society that refuses to make righteous noise. They are forever entitled to our resistance and our rage.”

Happy Birthday, Dolores Huerta. 🤍
Today, Dolores turns 96. Born in New Mexico in 1930, she co-founded the United Farm Workers and spent her life fighting for anyone the system tried to leave behind. The movement is yours, Dolores. The words are yours.
Feliz cumpleaños 🕯️

Despite clear evidence of harm to young voters, a federal judge declined to block North Carolina’s Senate Bill 747, which makes it easier for lawful ballots cast during early voting to be thrown out through no fault of the voter.

We know that paper forms are the gold standard for voter registration. Especially for college students, rural communities and people without DMV IDs.
This is calculated.
APPARENTLY the NC State Board of Elections has money to mail 241,000(!) letters but not to print voter registration forms for community groups doing the actual work? 😵💫
According to them, "The physical forms were never intended to be in endless supply."

The #SAVEact would also end online voter registration, eliminate mail-in registration, and shut down community registration drives overnight.
North Carolina, we need you to tell your senators to vote no on the #SAVEact. Take action now at demnc.co/saveact.
Here in NC, a state audit found that 97.6% of voters flagged as noncitizens by the DMV were actually US citizens. That mistake could eliminate an entire sector of the voting population. 🧵
69 million married women in America have a birth certificate that no longer matches their legal name. 23 million live in North Carolina. Under the #SAVEact , that document might not be enough to prove who they are.🧵
146 million American citizens do not have a passport. That's nearly as many people that voted in the entire 2024 presidential election. Half the country would not be able to use one of the bill's primary accepted documents. 🧵
The #SAVEact would require every eligible voter show a passport or original birth certificate to register to vote or update their registration. Not a driver's license. Not a Real ID. Not a military ID. 🧵
North Carolina! Congress is pushing a bill called the #SAVEact. They say it’s “about stopping voter fraud” and would require “documented proof of citizenship”.
What this bill actually does is make it harder for millions of eligible Americans to register. Here's what you need to know. 🧵🪡
The NCSBE is discussing how recounts are handled at the county and statewide level, including machine-tabulated and hand-eye recounts
Since the NC Senate 26th district spans across 2 counties, if an additional recount is requested, it would be overseen by the NCSBE
Meeting is now adjourned #ncpol
NCSBE IS BACK: Jay DeLancy has proposed a rule change related to the photo ID exception form, which allows voters to still cast a ballot if they dont have an ID on hand.
HIS ASK: To mandate a license or SSN # be provided. If that number doesn't validate, then the ballot would be rejected.
#ncpol
If the proposed rules are approved, they'd go into effect June 1st. A meeting will now be rescheduled for April.
Chair Carmon states, "Over 15k commenters made comment, which is well over the alleged persons this rule would be addressing. Please keep that in mind when discussing approval." #ncpol
One NCSBE public commenter stated, "Please slow down. We don't how reliable the SAVE data will be and there is no use in rushing to use this database." #ncpol
On March 9, there were 500 comments were submitted to the NCSBE, with over 100 written emails, and dozens of hand delivered comments,
By March 16, an additional 15k comments were submitted via the online portal. Under general statute, the NCSBE must fully consider all the comments received #ncpol
HAPPENING NOW: The @ncstateboardofelections is meeting to discuss the proposed rules on "presumptive noncitizens", virtually allowing election officials to profile voter rolls and remove voters using an unreliable fed database called SAVE.

The SAVE Act IS a poll tax... but it's ALSO a voter surveillance program. It criminalizes our election workers AND this administration literally said it would make Republicans "never lose a race for 50 years."

We’re out in Rockingham county to monitor the final vote count in one of the closest primary races in the state, Phil Berger v Sam Page.
This is why #everyvotecounts 🗳️ #ncpol
The NCSBE is finalizing rules that could purge thousands of eligible voters from the rolls. The proposed rule relies on a system called SAVE, an unreliable federal database, to flag and remove registered voters suspected of not being citizens.

When we say “every vote counts,” we mean it 👏🏿
In the 2025 municipal elections, 7 races ended in a tie and 15 were decided by just one vote. And now, we have another nail biter in NC’s 26th State Senate district.
