Good book too. Enjoyed it.
Virtual 3D scene of Rothera Station, Antarctica comprising a 3D model of Discovery Building, aerial imagery and elevation model. The Discovery Building is a pale blue and has an air traffic control tower on top. Other buildings can be seen around Rothera. The background of the image shows rocky and icy terrain.
📢 We're hiring a GIS Specialist to support the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme.
This is a really exciting opportunity at the British Antarctic Survey for someone to help us integrate GIS and BIM for infrastructure projects in Antarctica.

Happy days from a few weeks ago. How I miss it.
South Georgia is truly an amazing place. Particularly as the whaling stations are decaying and the wildlife is recovering after the amazing and successful rat eradication project
A conical peak emerges far above the clouds, with tidewater calving glaciers in the foreground
Some places looks truly... OTHERWORLDLY! 🪐❄️
This is Nordenskjold Peak (2354 m asl) one year ago (Feb 2024), emerging far above the sea, as seen from the east coast of South Georgia

Heading towards the weekend like a zodiac returning to its ship
Really enjoyed doing this interview when we were at the Cry2Ice meeting in Iceland! Thanks @cpom-uk.bsky.social!

its a great piece James. Good job
🧪🌊 🧵 As the minimum in Antarctic sea-ice extent has now dipped below 2 million km² for the third year in a row, it is looking increasingly like this is the new normal. In the 10 years up to 2015 the minimum extent averaged more than 3 million km².

Stunning view of a #humpback #whale in the sunshine!
#BIOPOLE2 has been blessed with #wildlife encounters! @biopole.bsky.social @bas.ac.uk
A lovely view of South Georgia from the ISS. And a particularly great image if you wanted to explain to people the route Shackleton, Worsley and Crean took across the island to reach Stromness.

After a tough drive through ice to visit a derelict base, this humpback was around the ship when we returned. Just off Spring Point on the Antarctic Peninsula
How about that! <waves hello>. Hope you’re well
I'm so sorry Zack. I really am. 💪. The tide will turn and hopefully quickly. All the best and thanks for all you've given and done so far in an outstanding career
Always thought what Narwhals did this. Now a team have observed it and written it up
"clear evidence of narwhals chasing fish and using their tusks to interact directly with the fish and to influence the fish’s behavior."

congratulations Kate, awesome news
Great movie of the drift of Antarctic Iceberg A84 that is caught in the coastal current at the base of the Antarctic Peninsula

Sea ice in the Arctic and around Antarctica cool our climate, drive ocean circulation across the planet, and provide a unique habitat for polar ecosystems.
Sea ice amounts have now fallen to their lowest since we started measuring them. This is not good.
