My main gripe with the alphafold example is how it shows you need decades and decades of high quality data, well structured, open and accessible to train a model -- and yet they always gloss over it and pretend it's just AI and magic. No, we need to continuously invest in real data and FAIR data.
Things are apocalyptic for science in the US. It might not seem that way to everyone because many academic scientists have tenure and get to keep their jobs (for now), and most grants last three years, so many scientists still have funding. But it's going to get way worse.

We analyzed 639 genomes across 48 grape species to understand how hybridization drives adaptation.
• ~14% of average Vitis genome is introgressed
• Most parallel adaptations are shared via gene flow
• Two "hybrid species" are actually hybrid swarms
I don't know how the US will recover from the effect this will have on an entire generation of early career researchers. Devastating.
