Origament: A Paper Adventure – Review I’ve been a gamer for more years than I care to admit, and I’m always on the hunt for something new. This is not an easy task, nor should it be. Most games (I’d dare say all games) are inspired by those that came before them. The games the developers loved growing up, and the ones that inspired them to get into developing themselves. It’s no surprise to anyone that I prefer a solo gaming experience, regardless of genre, but I find I spend most of my time playing games that are relaxing instead of those that make me stressed.

KuloNiku: Bowl Up! – Review The older I get, the more I realize how my I love cozy games, especially life sims and cooking games. These generally fall into a few categories. Life sims often involve farming or other similar activities, or you get a game where you take on godlike control over the daily life of the people in the game, like The Sims. For cooking games, well, you cook. The location may vary (a food truck, kitchen, assisting Mama etc.) but generally it’s straight forward cooking. Now, KuloNiku: Bowl Up! from Gamir Studio combines these 2 genres into something I wasn’t expecting at all.

Puzzling Places – Review I love a great puzzle game, especially when it can introduce a new or unique mechanic that I’m not used to seeing in games. Realities.io Inc has done just that with their 3D puzzle game called Puzzling Places. Whether you are a puzzle enthusiast or just prefer to pick away at a few pieces at a time, you can choose to play Puzzling Places however you like. There are no time limits and no fail states. There are 2 modes: Classic and Journey. In Classic mode, you get all the puzzle pieces at once to sort through freely, like a standard physical puzzle.

Treeplanter: Plant real trees – Review I’ve often been called a tree hugger, and for good reason. I was always passionate about recycling and conservation as a child, and I even have a degree and a diploma related to environmental sciences. So, I guess, I embrace the nickname even if it was meant as an insult. But I digress, this isn’t about me, it’s about a game releasing this week called Treeplanter from Henry Driver. An artist, game developer, and sixth-generation farmer, Henry will personally plant a tree for every copy of Treeplanter sold. Partnering with schools, communities, farms, and charities, over 900 trees were planted during the last year of development alone.

Nippets – April 7 – Press Engine My love of hidden object games is well known. There is something about searching for items you’re not really supposed to find, but they are all very similar in that respect. You have a list; you look for the thing. But sometimes a game comes along that shakes up what you expect from a genre you are too comfortable with. Nippets is that game. Blink Industries describes their game, Nippets, as a “hand-drawn hidden object game inspired by the joy of people watching and telling small stories.” Nippets isn’t just made of still images of scenes, but moving stories.

Hidden Around the World – Review I absolutely love Hidden object games. When I played the demo for Ogre Pixel’s ‘Hidden Around the World’ during Steam Next Fest, I was hooked and couldn’t wait for more. Full disclosure, I’ve had this game for a little while, but couldn’t stop myself from playing long enough to write this review. Yes, spoiler alert, I really liked this game. Just like Hidden in my Paradise, also from the same devs, you are tasked with finding hidden objects and recreating scenes for photographs.  Recreating the photos requires you to locate and move a variety of items, and sometimes searching for these can take a little time.

The Posthumous Investigation – Review “Time loop. Noir inspired.” Those 4 words in an email were all it took for me to reply to Starfall PR with an immediate, ‘Yes, please.' Developed by Mother Gaia Studio and published by Critical Leap and Infini Fun, The Posthumous Investigation is an adventure game that requires you (as a P.I.) to repeat a day over and over again while you collect all the clues required to solve the mystery behind the murder of wealthy aristocrat, Brás Cubas. Using what you learn each day to decide what you need to do the next day, all while trying to complete as much as you can before midnight and you start the loop again.

Go! Go! Mister Chickums – Review Go! Go! Mister Chickums…this is a fantastic game for a game that had me exclaming the same thing as I cheered on Mister Chickums in his venture to get his eggs back from the evil, sneaky Grabbo. If you struggle at all, you can always invite your best friend to play as Fritz, Mister Chickums’ best friend in 2 player co op. Developed and published by com8com1 Software, Go! Go! Mister Chickums is a fun, classic platformer inspired by the beloved arcade games of my childhood, the 80’s and 90’s and the game is even played in 4:3 format.

Neopets – Mega Mini Games Collection – The Neopian Arcade Odyssey – Review When I mentioned to someone that I was getting the opportunity to review Neopets - Mega Mini Games Collection - The Neopian Arcade Odyssey they were really jealous. I’ll be honest, I know of Neopets, but I was outside their targeted age demographic when they were at the prime, so I don’t have the nostalgia associated with them. That’s not to say I wasn’t excited about the game, everything I saw looked like a good time. Developed by No Gravity Games and Published by Sidewalk Games, this title launched on March 26th.

Fortune Seller – Review I’ll be honest, card battle games are not a genre I play much. It’s not that I don’t like them; I honestly just haven’t had a lot of experience with them. Now, Fortune Seller, developed and published by Kiwick, caught my eye with its graphics and trailer that seemed like an inventory management game. When I realized it was a card battle game, I thought…why not? Let’s give this a try and expand my gaming horizons. In a dark setting, you are the newest employee of an antique shop where you try to make money by selling as many items as you can to a client by fitting the items into a limited inventory space.
