I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

It’s time for a comprehensive national civic uprising. It’s time for Americans in universities, law, business, nonprofits and the scientific community, and civil servants and beyond to form one coordinated mass movement. Trump is about power. The only way he’s going to be stopped is if he’s confronted by some movement that possesses rival power.

Absolutely. Every time. But if I am pausing- with all my privilege and education- that makes it scary

For the first time in my very privileged life, I am feeling the urge to think carefully about what I post about politics. Will it impact my ability to enter a foreign country? Go to a conference? Do some projects? Get funding? This is how freedom dies #academicsky

This is the kind of moral courage we need more of.

PS Please please, if you can actively squirrel away some money every month (as much as you can), it may make a difference if one day you face a similar choice. Courage is a lot easier if you can feed yourself/loved ones after exercising it.
