I imagine that this is a step along a path of engaging with the Maker community and brainstorming ways to be helpful in solving these problems. California has a very active Maker population and I'm certain they'll have many suggestions.
As a former Obama White House advisor who advocated for the increased use of 3D printers, for making and education, I find this legislation puzzling. Thwarting proliferation of 3D printed firearms is a valiant goal, but 3D printers are not designed in a way that allows for the detection of firearms.
