A key solution to climate change isn't happening – and that's good Removing CO2 from the atmosphere by capturing the carbon from burning biomass is supposed to save the planet, but it looks like the flagship project will never happen

Somehow a nonexistent technology became the 'official' solution to global warming. It's good it's not happening because it would be ridiculously expensive and catastrophic for biodiversity. Oh, and it wouldn’t even work either

Today outside the IMO we called for an end to forest biomass. Biofuels from trees are not a climate solution, they’re a threat to forests, people, and the planet. #biomass #forests #notobiofuels

www.theguardian.com/environment/... New study: "BECCS [using forest wood] is unlikely to generate negative emissions within 150 years, is likely to produce higher emissions for decades than using natural gas without carbon
capture and is likely to increase electricity costs by ~3.5-fold." #BECCS

Can we finally agree that burning wood for energy is a terrible idea and won't be carbon neutral, let alone carbon negative, in our lifetimes? BECCS using wood certainly shouldn't qualify as CO₂ removal (CDR).

Bill 1:

Many of these are the territories of uncontacted peoples, who could be annihilated because of the destruction of their home.

In letter to @ipcc.bsky.social, leading scientists, including #EASAC experts, urge the #IPCC to fix loopholes in its carbon-accounting rules.

They warn: splitting land-use and #energy accounting lets countries claim #CO2 cuts not reflected in real emissions.

The Trump Administration’s New Biofuels Targets Threaten Carbon-Rich Rainforests - Inside Climate News The U.S. doesn’t have enough bio-based diesel to meet the administration’s new mandate, so blenders will have to import yet more foreign crop-based oils.

Biofuels are not a viable clean energy solution. Consequences: land used to grow food is now being used to grow fuel. Worse, biofuels have created such a demand for vegetable oils that rainforests are being cleared to grow more of it. @biofuelwatch.bsky.social insideclimatenews.org/news/3103202...

Drilling for gas and oil and burning more carbon is not the sideshow, it's the cause of global heating. Wind & solar power, etc. don't reduce carbon emissions by themselves, not unless their use results in less carbon being burned. And climate targets pre-date the recent acceleration in warming.

Put a forest in your tank: Why e-fuels aren’t necessarily a climate solution - Environmental Paper Network E-fuels are being promoted as a climate solution for aviation, shipping, and road transport. There are a variety of e-fuels, but beware! Some of them use

🌏 Far from always representing a clean, responsible alternative, some e-fuel solutions risk becoming a major new driver of forest destruction and carbon emissions, wreaking havoc during their production and/or combustion.

🙅‍♂️ Don't fall into the biogenic trap - burning paper and packaging waste still releases carbon emissions. This Int’l #ZeroWasteDay, we need to talk about the myth that incineration of waste for energy (“waste-to-energy”) is a “green” solution when it is a CO₂ emissions-heavy pollutant energy source.
