Artwork showing a curious adventurer approaching what looks like a large wrapped present, but which is actually a deadly mimic.
I hope everyone had a wonderful day... and I hope none of your gifts were mimics in disguise!
My senior project in high school, I rewrote the base Eamon game in C. Sure wish I still had that code. It sparked my interest not just in adventure/RPG, but also the concept of free/open source software. The fact it had what we now call DLC put it way ahead of its time!

Fun Fact: Eamon is the longest running computer video game "franchise" in the world. It is a series of Text Based RPG's for the Apple Computer.
Despite it's record of the longest running video game series, it's mostly non-commercial and free. #videogamehistory #retrogames #rpgs #textadventures

SwordThrust, the commercial successor to Donald Brown's freeware Eamon, kept the same basic structure and game play as its predecessor but wove in lots of new features, stats, spells, and other refinements.
It was first published by CE Software, and later distributed by Softsmith and Main Street.
I wonder if anyone bought the full set of 225 Eamon in 1986? #AppleII #Computist magazine #81

Robert Parker's 1989 Eamon adventure "Anatomy of the Body" sends the miniaturized adventurer on a journey through the human body to battle bacteria and cancer cells. Parker's sequel, "The Body Revisited", is vastly more complex and detailed!

The festive holiday scene is an 8-bit Christmas greeting card showing a Christmas tree in the left foreground with twinkling lights, a fireplace with a roaring fire and stockings hung from the mantle. Atop sits a clock with a swinging pendulum and two flickering candles.

The little arrow heading away from the human figure near the center of the screen towards the giant spider thing is your weapon, a kind of arrow machine gun thing augmented by whatever weapon you find. So if you find a dagger, it's like a dagger attack -- only ranged. The fortress you explore is also riddled with destructible blocks, rooms, treasures, and plenty of enemies!
