One should never let a good crisis go to waste!
While decoupling is welcome cost reduction should also be achieved by reducing the slots where gas is used…

Check out the excellent podcasts with Evan Davis where Mr Beanland demonstrates his experience and expertise. And personality. Worth giving him a good listening to…”The Happy Heatpump podcast”

The world doesn’t have the energy anymore for Trump…
Will the end of Trump simply be the collective weariness of the world, specifically the voter, their representatives and finally the administration for his chaotic behaviour. Bourne out of…maybe people don’t care anymore? That will come when even those around him turn on him as he stands naked.
The U.K. spark gap is currently c 4.3:1 (post April ‘26) and with a modern r290 heat pump set up properly you can get scop 4.5-5. Add to that even a small eg 5kwh battery and buying on an agile/smart rate the gap becomes closer
to 3. So it’s certainly possible to make significant savings here.
Does not “necessarily “ mean your bill will go down. But.
There are reasons why it might…heating and buying smarter, using a balanced system v an oversized gas boiler. And in my case it has resulted in a significant drop of over 25%… and clean energy!
The country has no appetite for a change of PM. He should suffer examination at the next elections but needs to serve out his term. He was elected on a stability and integrity ticket and needs to answer for the failure in this process and fix any culture of secrecy.
What’s this rehashed fake intellectual, one time advisor to the disastrous ex PM and now grubby grifter David Cameron doing now? Another Dominic Cummings type that the U.K. has no interest in nor appetite for. From the stable of Thick Nimothy…
Had to search and found the article “archived” And readable on Facebook…
A very good piece. Why do Labour stumble on this with the tin eared Chancellor briefing for the oil lobby?
By speeding up the integration with the EU or raising taxes … on line shopping sites , social media platforms (smokers pay taxes?) or just personal taxes. With a 20 year disparity between those living in the richest and poorest areas of the U.K. I don’t think welfare entitlements should be targeted?
Errr “Grift Article” surely?
I am disappointed by the lack of effective responses to these questions… eg
1. Fossil is bad for our future
2. There will be more jobs from renewables than fossil’s.
3. International prices (even LNG effectively)
4. Fossil is and will be increasingly imported.
What was the question again?
Puede que no sea el fin de Trump... pero es el principio del fin de él
Is that just a static advertising prop?
Is it the beginning of the end though?
To paraphrase the bankrupt asked how it happened…first slow and then very fast…
As I am an amateur in this I can recommend Gary does Solar on YouTube as a clued in guy. It’s fairly detailed but manageable for those interested I would say…
Other good sites/influencers are available. Fair to say it’s not always as intuitive as you might think…
But I had a difficult time this weekend on negative agile rates (up to c 10p, which is rare) where the rational decision was to put blankets over the panels, turn the HP off and run the oven with the door open…while boiling and pouring down the sink as many kettles full of water as I could…
I am expecting that export rates will fall a lot so wary of that idea. But if you can lock in a deal that make sense?
I’m trying to get my head around “charging all the time” but am not sure how the system would work. Eg a full battery and more demand => drain battery and fill it at latest rate?
A friend in Scotland has 10kwh battery (solar not judged feasible) and HP from Octopus and on cosy. Seems happy with it.
Or you could consider the 7p overnight rate and enough battery for the days. Designed for equinox. & trade off some summer solar overproduction and winter buying the grid price?
I had a solar plus 5kwh battery and then later I got a 16kwh HP and agile. The HP significantly changes electricity demand (obvs) but the 5kwh generally gets me through the peak. Bar Xmas day and some Jan days.
Battery strategies are a separate expertise. I keep thinking of adding kWhs but…
1. Assumes a smart controller like Homely as it will dial down the HP at peak period 4-7pm
Well…
1. If you want to ride through the 4-7pm octopus agile peak price then c5KWh could work.
2. If you want to stock up on cheaper periods then up to your total typical daily KWhs?
3. If you have an EV that’s both a big drain and a battery
4. If you have a HP that’s your major user esp in winter
It’s notable that for me there are two types of ex politicians/leaders, those who, post power, become more authentic and credible, that I want to hear from and those whose grift sickens me and whose voices I couldn’t care less about: Brown, Hezeltine, Sturgeon a yes and Clegg, Cameron, Blair no.
I agree but... It’s a natural reaction by consumers. The same as negative inflation leads to people putting off buying something that will be cheaper next week, month, year.
I want a c3-400mile range at an affordable price (eg second hand)…my phev does for my local travel when a bike doesn’t work…
And an interesting point as he asks at the end …with all the innovation happening in batteries, are potential EV adopters holding back on their first purchase? (Like his mother is …) …and me…
Thanks for the reminder! Just popped out to mow the lawn …until 4pm on the dot!
I’ve just signed the petition to ban councils using bailiffs to collect debt. With council tax going up this month, we need to act now before millions of people have the bailiffs come knocking. Can you sign and share? you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ba...
It was lazy of the BBC … or…
I would say the same to the UK government…the unedifying stench of creeping authoritarianism…
