Animation nerds: check out the background art by Irv Wyner in 1956's Two Crows from Tacos. The choice to use flat pink skies and bluish cacti is a masterclass in drawing the viewer's eye exactly where it needs to be on a tight budget. 🎨🖌️

Full review of the new Tom and Jerry Anthology set is now on YouTube in case you haven't seen it yet — link in bio/first comment.

Finally: A comprehensive look at the Tom & Jerry Golden Era Anthology. This set includes the "Holy Grail" uncut shorts, but are the remaining transfers up to archival standards? Let's talk nitrate negatives vs. Metrocolor dupes.

What's your favourite non-ACME gag from the series?Paired with Treg Brown's heavy sound effects, it's animation perfection. But the real highlight? Chuck Jones perfectly capturing Wile E. Coyote's complete existential crisis. 10/10. 💥 #LooneyTunes #AnimationHistory
Nerd alert: There They Go-Go-Go! (1956) is one of the rare shorts completely devoid of ACME branding. It also features Philip DeGuard giving us the first consistently stylised "yellow sky" for a full short. 🎨🎬

Until then, come join me for a deep dive into the history of this classic short, Jack Hannah’s directing style, and why Donald eclipsed Mickey in the 1950s.
My review of Bee At the Beach (1950) has officially left the Patreon Vault.
A quick side-note to Disney: Please just re-release the Walt Disney Treasures sets! I am fully aware of how insanely expensive Volume 3 has gotten on the secondary market. We just want physical media! 📀🦆

Fascinating animation quirk in McKimson’s ‘Wideo Wabbit’ (1956): The TV producer's jacket features a static pattern that stays flat against the background rather than moving with his body geometry. A brilliant budgetary shortcut that gives the character a surreal, modern-art feel. 🎨📺

New Review for Fish Tales (1936) now live!
Animation nerds: If you want to study the musical transition at the Schlesinger studio before Carl Stalling and Milt Franklyn took over, listen to Fish Tales (1936). Norman Spencer's heavy reliance on the woodblock and his original "Mr. Fish" motif is a fascinating auditory time capsule. 🎼🎬

Animation nerds: If the electrocution gag in Yankee Dood-It (1956) looks familiar, it’s because Freleng's unit lifted the exact coat-hanger/frayed-wire setup from 1950's Canned Feud. Also, Milt Franklyn sneaking Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse" into a lecture on factory machinery? Chef's kiss. 🎨🎼
My new review covering this amazing short is now live on the channel! youtu.be/_-_L6T1dAuQ
It’s an incredible clash of 1930s character design against bold 1950s stylization. 🎨🖌️
Animation nerds: You need to study Maurice Noble’s art direction in Deduce, You Say (1956). Some of the best ever. Also: The background characters in the "Henry the 8th's 5th" pub heavily borrow from British illustrator Ronald Searle's scratchy, ink-heavy aesthetic from his WWII POW days.
Here is a Kickstarter from ClassicFlix looking for support to get two amazing Laurel and Hardy movies looking the best they’ve ever been
I’ve personally pledged and I hope it gets over the line (Vol 1 is also featured in the rewards if you missed that one)

Ok so this is not animation but since the boys have been featured in quite a few animated shorts from various studios I’m going to count it 😂
Here's a video you may have missed over on the channel but if you ever wanted to know why some Looney Tunes shorts start with those beautiful title cards while others just start with a Blue Ribbon title card with the short's name and that's it I go through it here: youtu.be/MphqvTsUTIQ
