"I see Ragnarok at last unfold.

And worst of all... I see the desperate hopes of the one man who might yet stop it... turned to ash and cinders...

by a single bolt of lightning.

Armageddon has arrived."

As a lifelong fandom type, yes. Fandom is and should be an unserious and self contained speakeasy of bootleg bullshit and the powers that be (the show runners, press, etc.) aren't invited. Fandom can take itself seriously but nobody else should. The more people take us seriously the worse shit gets.

A very astute (and upsetting!) piece that touches on four scary cultural trends: 1) The demand for spelled-out moral clarity in stories 2) A growing inability to understand different types of narratives 3) The "customer's always right" version of fandom 4) The growth of fandom as a social identity.

I've been so bonked by the flu and depression I've not had any energy for anything beyond the bare minimum of: sleep some, eat enough, barely meet work deadlines so I don't burn bridges. I don't think I've drawn in a month, I haven't written, I've not edited my own projects. Let me out of this slump

If you want to work in trad pub book covers: The big guys still have physical addresses and postcarding is, in fact, still a thing. People do it less and less so it can set you apart. Don't skimp on quality, don't write anything on the back aside from your thanks and portfolio site.

Contact forms are extremely easy for bots to not only fill out, but also scrape and surface information from. It's generally in your interest to make your email as easily accessible as possible and handle spam in your inbox via filters.

Ok!

Visible email

Easily navigable

Brutally prune your work, smaller great portfolio > larger good one

Start and finish on strongest pieces

Show the kind of work you want to be hired to do (sounds obvs, but y’know…)

Show you understand how multiple elements (eg figures) interact

*sigh*
If your Kickstarter video/image is AI, I won't back it.
If your book has an AI cover, I won't read it.
If you're a public supporter of AI use for creative work, I will unfollow you.
I cannot stress enough how offensive I find AI use in the arts. It is outright theft, it is lazy, it is gross.

This is from NASA's DSCOVR climate satelite, located at Lagrange Point 1 (the point of equal gravitation balance between the Sun and Earth, about a million miles from Earth in the prosolar direction). The Moon sometimes photobombs Earth in its images. It has been in operation since 2015.

Just in that preview image, I'm sure you can adjust for grain direction with the role and format sizing. I do love this

I want to like this so bad but it prints against the paper grain which is making me cringe so hard
