For new painters, big YouTubers like this guy are often the first stop when learning the hobby (they were for me) and I think that should change. The box art, Eavy Metal, competition style can be cool but it might not be for you and that’s ok.
But also just because he hasn’t figured out how to use it in an interesting way, doesn’t meant that you can’t. I suggest you try it. I suggest you try anything that feels fun to you.
Maybe you're painting not for the tabletop but for photography, in which case you can take advantage of that extreme light absorption to hide a flying support, or create a sort of black hole effect in 3d space.
There's no arguing that the dude has achieved a high level of technical mastery; it's evident just from looking at his work, or the handful of Golden Demon awards he's won. But it was kind of shocking to hear him say these paints have *no place* in the hobby. It's just not true.

He was answering viewer questions and someone asked if he had tried musuo black, which is one of those ultrablack, ultramatte paints. You may have heard of Black 3.0 or vantablack, it's like that.
Anyway, said influencer said he hadn't tried because it has no place in our hobby.
Been traveling this week with a fair amount of driving between destinations, so burned through my usual podcasts. Threw on a podcasts from a hobby influencer who is probably one of the most acclaimed when it comes to painting, and I was truly shocked by something he said.
