In the last week I've been testing a lot of models and CLI tools. Specifically, GPT 5 Codex, Claude 4.5, and Gemini 2.5 Pro. It still blows my mind that ChatGPT was first released less than three years ago.
I think the next few years will be interesting.

I am have plans to make an open source, locally powered assistant this year. Something that can do Internet searches, read and write my calendar and maybe hook into my phone notifications. I am hoping we might get a r2 I can run locally to power it.
This installs whisper on it own but you do need to install ollama, but that is really easy.
Over the last year I have been working on free open source accessibility tools & I have finished my newest. It transcribes meeting & DnD Games makes summaries. It runs locally using Whisper & Ollama. But it can use an OpenAI key.

Yep, Pris and I work remote, Walt is in HS now. She also started her master's at VCU too. We will need to find some time for all to hang out. I might be going to MD for work this year but I am not sure when.

Ya, so does most socal media. OpenAI and anthropic do too. I like the idea of open source/open weight's enough not to care. It I am doing something really sensitive I just spine something up locally.
Maybe Meta will Llama4-R1 soon and we can see how that does.

I mostly use reddit these days. Mainly cus they don't shove subreddit in my feed to see if I get angry enough to replay. I feel like Facebook does this all the time. "We know you like EVs, here's a group angry conservatives complaining about EVs"
Even though I am not active on my Patreon like I used to be. I still have people that won't go away it are still paying me so I have to stay on Facebook. I just removed all the apps from my phone though.
I saw a buddy of mine show his child GPT's voice mode. And over the next 20 mins it started telling him stories and playing with him and eventually worked in the basics of reading and math as part of the game they were playing. I immediately thought of this book.
I have a feeling deepseek had already spooked openAI and may have helped them secure the half trillion dollars in funding for Stargate. I am not fan of the CCP, but I really want to keep open weights / open source moving forward.
Also restart your phone daily. Not only will it keep your phone feeling faster, it also helps defeat some of the state sponsored spyware.
