At Doric Literary, we've made a bit of money through an editing gig, on the side - so we've raised our payment rate!

It is still a very meagre honorarium but we hope this is the start of a trend.

“Geminids” by Andrea Cavedo "...she knows somewhere there is also the hot tub, which Blake calls a spa bath. The only other thing she knows about the house is that somewhere within it is a nude photograph of Blake’s mother."

New story on Short Story, Long today, from @mrscavedowrites.bsky.social !

"She told her parents where she’s going, of course she did. She is a good girl, so the way she told them was by asking them permission, rather than coming out with it directly."

Highly recommend this beautiful #flash fiction about enduring love by @tracieadams.bsky.social 👇

I’m one of the lucky cohort who got to see an early draft of this in @smokelong.bsky.social workshop, too. It came together with such power & sad truth!!!

Bravo, Tracie & congratulations

The Bear Who Loved Me It takes exactly nine minutes for his padded paws to lumber from the pines at the edge of our property to our bedroom window. He taps three times.

"I stopped telling them when Bear came to the back deck, swatting the bird feeders, scattering seed like spilled time, then extending his heavy paw and asking if I wanted to dance."

Writers: Please, please, please keep a spreadsheet and track your submissions to literary journals!

No litmag wants to see the same (unrevised) story twice.

ICYMI: this story, published on 1/1/26, takes place over Easter weekend. It's a highway romance marked by cheap motels, Old Style, and a three-song piano concert in the Old Market in Omaha. One song is by the inimitable @dawestheband.bsky.social.

A fast resonse is great, but let me add as someone who has published in Doric Literary, that the editor is thoughtful and meticulous. Sure, I would say that, he accepted my story, but it's true. This mag has a bright future.
