no matter what you think about Starmer and Mandelson, it’s clear that we’ve never needed @theguardian.com (who broke the story) more than we do today 🙏

Facebook post from Robert Jenrick, a politician who famously had Mickey Mouse cartoon murals painted over at a children’s asylum centre
a bizarre intervention on entry fees for museums and attractions from Robert Jenrick — and a fascinating comments section in which nobody seems to agree with this apparent Reform UK culture policy

"To put it bluntly, an X post today receives less than 3% of the views a single tweet delivered seven years ago."
If you think it is necessary to be on Twitter to communicate your fact-based worldview, the reality is that worldview is being smothered.

As a Portuguese-British citizen, I feel it is my duty to add to your explainer article (Keir Starmalade, anyone? Will marmalade really have to be rebranded in UK?, 4 April) and explain where the word marmalade originated from. Marmalade comes from the fruit marmelo (quince). And marmalade was and is quince jam in Portugal. This jam began to be exported to England at the end of the 15th century. Only in the 17th century did the English start to apply the word marmalade to orange jam. As with many quintessential British things like tea, the English adopted it and made it their own. I like this story because my two countries are represented. Mónica Joyce Moniz Wyton, Cambridgeshire
Meanwhile, in the 'normal' world of RW disinformation, here's a nice letter about marmalade.
