Free frequent public transport is better!! If you have to get the car out to get to the pool, you keep going & skip the pool. Also difficult to drop off & pick up kids with car pooling. More good childcare near home is energy saving as well as good for #productivity

Turtles buried under mud at NSW wetlands after water inflows halted Researchers in north-west NSW are wading through thick mud in an attempt to save hundreds of turtles after the NSW government decided to stop supplying water to the protected wetland.

Journey to the End of Time First up, let’s face the mortality-teasing title of Alex Miller’s third collection of writerly odds and ends. The 89-year-old writer, a dual recipient of the Miles Franklin Literary Award, has no plans to retire in any sense of the word. This collection includes Miller’s articles for literary journals, speeches at book launches and notebook entries. It concludes with a poem he wrote in 2023 titled “On Writing”. The opening lines are “I have learned nothing of writing / I am at my beginning.”

“Despite our egotistical fantasies,’’ Alex Miller writes, “the author is not the master of the story. It is the story that is master of the teller.” satpa.pe/m9MIAyD

Of many succinct killer lines, the one on Marles's "dead parrot" military rhetoric is my favourite... an excellent read.

Hannah Ritchie's *Not the End of the World* is great on this. I've also found Rebecca Solnit *No Straight Road Takes You There* empowering. The paralysis of doom is real. Good luck with your writing. Focus on life, not the economic agenda - that helps see around the ever-present present.
