To succeed, we’ll need to build the world’s most energetic laser, develop the manufacturing basis for low-cost fusion targets, and bring these and more together into a fusion pilot plant. Our plan is to do this within the next decade.

The hardest part of fusion energy is & has always been, plasma physics. Heating atoms to hundreds of millions of degrees in a controlled way turns out to be very hard. But Annie and the team at Lawrence Livermore have now proven the basic science of fusion ignition. Now it’s a matter of scaling up.

Standing on the shoulders of giants, we see a clear path from this big science experiment to commercial energy by scaling up laser inertial fusion.

I’m sure you heard about the huge scientific milestone in 2022 when Lawrence Livermore National Labs achieved “fusion ignition” – the first time a fusion experiment created energy.

Today I’m excited to announce my new venture: Inertia Enterprises! Along with my co-founders Dr. Annie Kritcher and Prof. Mike Dunne, our mission is to commercialize fusion energy with the most direct, lowest-scientific risk path available.

Starting over, we get to make new norms for Bsky. Would be cool to have a feed of accounts that don’t fall for the traps of social media. A pledge maybe? Some example items:
