The plan for tomorrow, Sunday 15, is to coppice hazel in a private woodland in the Chilterns. Coppicing ensures the regeneration of new growth from the coppiced stools, helping prolong the life of the trees, and lets light in. 🌺 ocv.org.uk #Oxford

oxfordconservationvolunteers on Instagram: "Last Sunday, for our final task of the year, we were working on the @nunehamestate at Nuneham Courtenay. Back in 1610, Otho Nichols…" Last Sunday, for our final task of the year, we were working on the @nunehamestate at Nuneham Courtenay. Back in 1610, Otho Nicholson devised, and paid for, a new water supply for central Oxford. The conduit, at Carfax in central Oxford, was crowned with an elaborate stone tower, which, by the end of the 18th century was deemed to be a traffic obstruction. It was given to Earl Harcourt who had it removed to the grounds of Nuneham House where it was reassembled on a bluff overlooking the Thames. It's now a grade 1 listed building, a scheduled monument, and it had slowly been disappearing under rampant brambles. We cut back the bramble, then dug out the root nodules. Conservation work, but with an architectural bent!

Wishing all our friends and volunteers a Happy and Healthy 2026! 🥳 We leave you with some pictures of our last task of the year, last Sunday. 🐣 Remember we have a social walk on Saturday, 3rd. More details: ocv.org.uk www.instagram.com/p/DS7bXmRjIW...
