We engage in a broad discussion of Kurdish history, culture, politics, literature and language, with particular attention to issues of statelessness, identity, and violence. We talk about the current moment with regard to Turkey, Syria, Palestine, and the US-Israel war on Iran and beyond.

A note: I mention Temaşa-i Dünya ve Cefakar ü Cefakeş, written in Greek alphabet by Evangelinos Misailidis as the first novel in Turkish, I didn't remember at the moment that there was an even earlier Turkish novel, equally unrecognized, which was written by Hovsep Vartanian in Armenian alphabet.
The text I read at the beginning can be found here (and thanks to the Decolonial Passage and its editor Audrey Shipp for their support): thedecolonialpassage.net/2024/11/10/n...
I am grateful to @palumboliu.bsky.social and Hevin Karakurt for our conversation on Speaking Out of Place. We talked about literature, language, dehumanization, colonialism, academia, far right, Kurdishness, and posthumanism. Here is the episode:

"...la desaparición, tanto en sentido estricto como en el modo más amplio de ser borrado, parece insistir que lo humano puede ser retirado del mundo sin dejar rastro; que alguien puede convertirse en pregunta; que el silenciamiento puede ser una forma de gobierno."

A few days ago, I received the evaluation on an academic manuscript. One of the reviewer reports was clearly written by an LLM. Any editor who sends me one of those should know that their journal will not convince me to do one single review for them for the rest of the times.
Practicing Digital Ethnography, to which I contributed a micro-chapter on the concept of "Representation", is out. Thanks to Devin Proctor for a great editorial process.

My deepest solidarity to those who are suffering from state violence in Minnesota. I know how it feels to be hit, gassed, and insulted. I also know what it is like to watch your fellows be murdered on social media. They use violence to make you feel inferior. Don't let them.

Syrian security forces are committing war crimes in autonomous Kurdish neighborhoods. This should be considered part of a larger wave of extreme violence perpetrated by US-backed governments in West Asia, which includes the current Syrian administration.
