In the meantime the whole issue on communication media as crisis technologies has been published: journals.sagepub.com/toc/STS/curr...
We‘re glad to be part of it!
The article analyzes the app as a technopolitical device. Drawing on interviews with app developers and public health offices it excavates the citizenship norms inscribed into the technology and highlights the frictions with manual contact tracing by public health authorities.
Now a case of media archeology? Our article on the German contact tracing app just appeared in the journal Science, Technology and Society. It is part of the special issue „Tele-Crisis: Co-production of Crisis and Information and Communication Technology“

Our article on vector control methods that use microbes to fight viral diseases such as dengue is out now. @afolkers.bsky.social and I call the approach „symbiotic engineering“.

Indeed!
Please add me! Thanks.
@tbonacker.bsky.social and I are organizing a workshop on atmospheric violence as part of @sfb138.bsky.social. A warm welcome to all of our speakers!
New Order
Great discussions at the workshop Planet as Method I co-organized with Ute Tellmann (TU Darmstadt), Frederic Hanusch (JLU Gießen) and Clemens Finkelstein (JLU/Princeton). Thanks to all our guests!
New article by Leon Wolff in BioSocieties on the biopolitics of cryopreservation: „cryopreservation is linked to an imaginary of ecological separation that implies the idea that biodiversity can ultimately be preserved without a habitat.“

Poster zum Vortrag „Racializing Terrorism“ von Verena Erlenbusch-Anderson am 26.6. 18-20 Uhr im Haus „Zur Lieben Hand“, Großer Saal Abstract: In her talk, Verena Erlenbusch-Anderson explores the racialization of terrorism in the United States in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries through changing discursive formations of race. She illuminates its function as a tool of social exclusion in the service of white supremacy and examines the continued relevance of contestations of terrorism as a means to preserve white rule and a practice of resistance against white supremacy.
In Freiburg finden nächste Woche zwei Veranstaltungen statt, zu denen ich herzlich einladen möchte:
