Hectic. Yeah that “for now” is definitely ominous...

Very fair point, I can’t argue with that.

Social media apps as Lord of the Rings characters, a thread:

Twitter: Twitter is Gollum. Began as a normal halfling. Overexposure to evil left it thin and stretched and bitter.

Honestly, it's time for the concept of franchises to die. At this point all they are is a means for corporations to colonise the part of our brains reserved for leisure. They will churn out endless fanfiction with complete and shameless entitlement to our paychecks.

I don’t normally get too excited about representation, but seeing Rahul Kohli in The Haunting of Bly Manor was the first time I realised a brown man could have conventional Hollywood good looks…while rocking a moustache even! I’m not even a fan of the genre, but very tempted to buy Saros regardless.

Fascinating. I know this is besides your point, but hearing about the made-up stories is especially pertinent to me now, as I've just finished reading the authorized biography of Buffy Sainte-Marie, and then learned about the accusations. We've lost so much naivety over the last couple of decades.

I was not aware of this! People only ever reference his initial disparaging comments. Really enjoyed reading this.

A moment that changed me: for the first time in my life, a stranger pronounced my name correctly I had grown up dreading introductions, with the inevitable mangling of my name. Suddenly, in India, we were both getting the respect we deserved

Having spent much of my childhood being “corrected“ on how to pronounce my name based on its spelling in the English alphabet, I can attest that this is far more common, and cuts across many more dimensions of identity, than people realise.

I come to BlueSky expecting to see BlueSky posts, not dad-sharing-memes-from-Facebook-in-the-family-WhatsApp-group posts!

Two minutes into this, I was hooked. Fifteen minutes in, I was fighting back tears. At twenty minutes, I lost that fight. Holy fuck, what a tour de force.

"you need to learn how to use gAI or you'll get left behind!"

counterpoint!

the absolute fastest way to render yourself unemployable is to build your skillset around a tool that does your thinking for you, that everyone has access to, and that one company can change or take away at any time

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.
