This is the right decision and very welcome news. Working to make digital accessibility a requirement of public institutions is important and correct, but the one year extension will allow everyone to do things "right" rather than rush into compliance.

If you guys teach at the same time, maybe switch classes for one day and see how long it takes the class to notice?

Although, hilariously, every non-mathematics professor asked about applications, and apparently my answer of “it helps homotopy theorists understand equivalence of N_infinity Operads…..somehow” was not very satisfying 🤣.

My mom had me count to 20 by, you know, actually asking me to do that.

My “the signs were there early” moment was: we used to be asked to say our A,B,Cs and 1,2,3’s. ABCs made sense because there was a well defined endpoint, 123s did not, so I would only say “123”. My mom got called in, since the school was convinced I was mentally delayed.

By popular demand, institutional licenses can now be purchased at PreTeXt.Plus/subscriptions

Please, if you can pip install things, don't pay money for open source products! But if your office mate just wants to Start Writing, we're here to help! Basic/free tier is pretty good too... #MathSky

Tutte’s counterexample to Tait’s conjecture

Tutte’s counterexample to Tait’s conjecture

Tait thought all 3-conn 3-regular planar graphs were Hamiltonian, which would have proven the Four Color Theorem. Tutte provided a counterexample.

Annotated Edition: "Why sex-ratios in majors might be more than just bias" Line-by-line notes on factual, logical, and rhetorical errors. Annotated by Chad M. Topaz.

Another professor wrote a campus paper piece arguing that the economics gender gap is mostly biology. This... did not survive close reading. So because I am this way, I made an interactive annotated edition cataloging the factual, logical, and rhetorical errors. Wheee... Enjoy! #EconSky #AcademicSky

I'm really happy this paper is finally out!

It's about a course I taught for many years, and it ties together lots of my favorite and most creative ideas.

It also deepens my contribution to the ongoing discussion of the nature of inquiry. [Jump to Section 3.4 for a fun image.]

So three in mind, I was recently asked about applications of Graph coloring, and I gave an answer but something in your excellent expositional style would be great. Similarly for applications of Topology. But while we have all these applications, something about the value of mathematics…
