I'm here for this.
1,000+ musicians including Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Damon Albarn and Yusuf Islam/ Cat Stevens are jointly releasing this album today. It’s an album of recordings of empty studios, which is what we’ll get if the government’s plans for AI go ahead.

I find this Icky. Joan Didion thought carefully about the words she published. Notes help us play with our thoughts in private. I cannot believe she would have approved of this.

Nice to see you on here Marcy! I saw your post. I'm working with new artists in the UK on an advisory basis. All good.
100% this.
Thanks Eugeine, right back at you!
Lovely tree Brian! Looking forward to seeing more on here. And hope you're getting the miles in!
thank you!
thank you!
and please also check out the excellent case studies from artist and songwriter Victoria Canal and producer Catherine Marks (pictured below).
One of my various hats is producing and writing UK Music’s annual economic report, This Is Music, which demonstrates the music industry’s contribution to the UK economy and is published today.

We are all still figuring out how to licence AI.
This is an interesting example of keeping the deal and the approvals process relatively simple from the perspective of the creator. It is a a yes/ no option.
we should catch up offline, but keep me posted. In many respects, we are living in more enlightened times, despite all the craziness going on in the world.
We were the lost generation. There is more focus now in schools and colleges, so the next generation are better informed and better prepared.
Exercise is key for me and having a good routine. Plus people who are autistic + ADHD see to react differently to meds. I tried them, but didn't like them!
16.5% includes people waiting diagnosis and/or strongly believe they are - done at my insistence! By comparison, it is estimated 5% of the population are ADHD and 1-2% are autistic. Obviously there are other conditions to factor in too, with many co-occurring. The number ticks up as awareness grows
Thanks Darren! Avoiding meds is the way to go!
Regarding your other point, recent research suggests 16.5% of the music industry workforce are neurodivergent. Artists possibly more so, but in that range. I wouldn't say it's the majority, but it is certainly sizeable, and more so than other sectors.
100% this Dawn. Too many people act out of self interest. Coalitions bring about change.
In 2021, I wrote about my autism diagnosis, a little over a year after being diagnosed with ADHD.
The music industry is slowly improving its understanding of neurodiversity but there is a long way to go.

Revisiting some former posts from that other platform ...
In 2020, I went public with my ADHD diagnosis. Since then, so many people have come up to me in person and told me they sought a diagnosis after reading it (I lost count after 20).

It is telling that he's stayed with the same management (who are amazing) for almost 30 years. The difference is night and day. He's learned so many lessons, by the sound of it his former manager has not.
