-daps- This is good. Looking forward to more.

That's real. As a sociologist, I also try to remind people that many of our institutions are nothing but containers for the network of social relationships we have with one another. (I know, there's more, but still).
Thanks!
Damn shame.
Mmmm. Say more.
NSG. Never. Stop. Grifting.
Thanks for this!
The best academics are also some of the most generous with their knowledge. When they say some people are walking libraries, I mean I could sit there and just listen to them build worlds right in front of me.
Even the ones that seem "untouchable" share without hesitation. We should be so fortunate.
One reason Trump feels comfortable attacking the Pope is that leaders of faith-based spaces conflated wealthy for piety and exceptionalism for their audience.
Ironically, greed is among the first sins named in Christianity. But exceptionalism trumps integrity for too many people.
A mess.
Another year, another academic conference where it felt like the bibliography of my dissertation came to life. It was nice going to @aeraedresearch.bsky.social if only because it's the one space I can reliably see all my faves at once.
But I never get to see *everyone* I want to see.
You "don't do politics," but politics keeps doing you, and us, like this.
Did this man just say an "entire civilization will die tonight?"
Note to the country: maybe don't give the nuclear codes to someone who Republicans will immediately say "Don't take him so seriously!" as he keeps tapping the buttons.
Same, same.
This looks fire!
I love how my people on here are really nerding out over Artemis II. Even the nonsense at the White House can't stop the mirth, and that's saying something.

"It's gotta be the lens." 😏
More students are having conversations with each other about the deluge of AI getting thrown at them.
Some are going straight up analog, despite all the coding classes thrown at them.
Ed-tech constantly talk up "disruption," but it's the students doing it via art, music, etc. I remain hopeful.
As we're getting closer to a collective technological mistrust, it's great that more people are starting to see the value of arts and humanities.
Strong writing, music, art, and photography.
From a sociological perspective, trust is shifting to actual human beings. Our saving grace.
We got us.
The United States has normalized firing teachers and librarians for the simple act of defending students' and communities' right to learn.
This country has normalized this behavior, but we must remain discomforted and agitated by this.
“Most of my work as a math teacher isn’t even math. It’s helping students believe that they can also do math. We don’t talk about that enough.” —José Vilson, Educator

Thanks for pointing this out. For better or worse, community is where it's at.
It's funny because I didn't laugh til the Black security guard came with his face. I was like, "Druski, this is a little ... too spot on." 😅
All the time.
Or even when he mimicked the disabled journalist.
He was encouraged to go deeper, uglier, and darker and that was perfectly acceptable.
I do miss the "network" effect of what Twitter (not X) used to do for my articles, but that era is done.
I have my own slice of the Internet that I'll hold onto as long as these folks allow. I was glad to win design and writing awards through this little site of mine.
I hope this was helpful.
3) No competition:
I don't want to have to "compete" or "rank" among others. In the education space, there's already enough competing. I prefer having my own carve-out of the web where I'm not having to compare my work to others for status.
2) Customizability:
My site reflects most of my work. Blog. CV. About. Paid newsletter functions. SEO integration. It's a one-stop shop for all things me and that's vital to what I'm building.
Each page has a different vibe, but still under my work.
1) Design
I love design. It seems like there's a standard look newer newsletters have, and that's fine. But I prefer different headers, typefaces, and overall aesthetic that reflects where I'm at.
And now my typefaces are consistent across my website and my video work thanks to Adobe. Exciting!
People, please.
I'm not doing a Substack.
This isn't a diss to those who use it, but I'm only on there to read my homies.
Here are the things I've appreciated about my WordPress self-hosted journey:
