that era of youtube was so special and magical. now we have mr. beast. really felt like coming home a little drunk from the darty in 2016 and watching vine compilations with friends

his pop spectacle era was also when he was horrifically abused by the music industry. of course he's not going to recreate it! his youtube bit was like 10 minutes of a 90 min set. i think he's allowed to be a little silly & sing with a version of himself from before fame got him
something very sweet about watching the first real youtube star harmonize with his younger self & then live react to his most embarrassing paparazzi moments. i could write a dissertation on this performance as a reflection on internet fame. & showing random vines? justin bieber is actually so funny
new baby shoes just dropped :(
ty again for coming on the show!!!
so thankful to @morgansung.bsky.social for having me on Close All Tabs to talk about how farmers have fought for right to repair! Thought this episode turned out really great and the show in general is amazing:

This week on @hyperfixedpod.bsky.social, our listener Chris lost his sight in high school, and was worried he lost his love for movies as well. But then he discovered audio descriptions. The problem is that so many movies aren't audio described. So he came to us for help.
i have faith that the general public would choose emily henry's writing over an ai knockoff of people we meet on vacation
the first time i had natural wine i was like uhh there's chunks in my wine. and then i learned that the chunks make it taste good. and that's kind of what reading cormac mccarthy's prose is like. respectfully.
i'd be interested in seeing this with more "approachable" genres. what i'm really curious about is whether the masses prefer human-written romantasy, or the ai version. like, will readers be more into the booktok darlings or the ai slop imitation of it?
to be fair, asking the average person to pick between blood meridian and claudeslop is kind of like asking to choose between a funky sediment heavy "biodynamic" natural wine and a buzzball. you gotta develop a taste for this kind of thing.
I talked to @morgansung.bsky.social about sex work, surveillance, & censorship for close all tabs from kqed!

Microsoft, Google, Meta and Amazon paying influencers $400k-$600k to post months of AI hype content. Absolutely busted, failed industry, embarrassing era

With the awful WaPo layoffs and the state of journalism more broadly, if it's useful for any writers and reporters considering going indy, @molly.wiki, @xoxogossipgita.bsky.social of Aftermath, @jasonkoebler.bsky.social of 404 Media, @edzitron.com and me will do a little workshop next week.
wow i don't think he likes his gf's american family
i think you gotta do an anime fandub-type of thing here
🎙️ON AIR:
We're talking to @morgansung.bsky.social, @sfgate.com's Stephen Council, and @kjezermorton.bsky.social about friction-maxxing and how doing things the hard way can bring us more joy, serendipity and human connection.

Do you have the right to record ICE? Criminal justice reporter @cjciaramella.bsky.social explains to @morgansung.bsky.social how the Trump administration is working to create a chilling effect around filming law enforcement. www.kqed.org/news/1206959... via @kqednews.kqed.org @goosenaut.bsky.social
You don’t need to guard yourself against every threat unless you're willing to “live as a hermit on a 🏔️ and fling all of your devices into the sea,” says the #cybersecurity director at the @eff.org. www.kqed.org/news/1207040... via @kqednews.kqed.org @morgansung.bsky.social @goosenaut.bsky.social
For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.
The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
it's a first amendment right but DHS has been retaliating against anyone exercising that right. close all tabs just put out a whole episode about this! wherever you get your podcasts!

like they're going after authors who post "too frequently" and write too eloquently because they can't fathom that someone with creativity and drive can pump out 20k quality words a week
maybe we should gatekeep ao3. far too many normies posting ai generated yaoi and now readers are witch hunting actual writers for using the em dash
bodes well for woke 2.0 that fujos are mainstream but it also means that fanfiction discourse is reaching new heights of Annoying
ok rewatching industry right now and the whole show makes soooo much more sense now that i know that a short is when you gag the market
new close all tabs episode with @cjciaramella.bsky.social, all about the right to record and share information about ICE, and how the trump administration is trying to stop people from exercising that right

uhhh sir you aren't allowed to shoot us until we scan your code
they can't even scan your concert tickets if your phone brightness isn't high enough
it took like three tries to scan the menu bar code on a dimly lit, but stationary, bar table last night. how will this work with a highly combative ice agent who can just. move
