“It is not an exaggeration to say that the minority report was gerrymandered to benefit the UCP by significantly diluting urban voters.”

“The UCP government’s plan to dismiss an independent electoral boundary commission riding map recommendations and undertake a redo is a “stab in the heart for democracy,” said one commission member.”

“Samson said she didn't see the break coming, but that she had no doubts that "something or someone" had pressured the UCP-appointed members to come up with a minority report.”
Another original commissioner member has stepped forward.

Danielle Smith claims that her new UCP majority boundaries commission will follow the recommendations of one person on the old commission…
But that begs a simple question…
Why did they give themselves the power to do whatever they want?

Smith says that she wants to redraw the maps to ensure that rural gets the representation it deserves because rural constituencies are complex & too big.
This compares the majority report & the minority report.
It's the cities that get carved up, rural barely moves.
“The Premier… stated (incorrectly) that the retired judge who had chaired the commission raised the possibility of using voters, rather than residents, as the basis for drawing boundaries.
It wasn’t the Chair, but rather the two UCP appointees who suggested this”

Wherein Smith posts a pic of the headline, not the article.
"favours aligning with Sweden and Finland’s approach, where puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are reserved for children and teens with a history of gender dysphoria that started in early childhood and has persisted for many years."
Smith on disability today...
"Whether a person is disabled does not create a limitation in what they can do and whether they can work"
And...
"For those who are severely handicapped, I think there's such obvious indicators there"

"B" called in to ask how the premier holds herself accountable...
Smith didn't answer, but she did say the quiet part out loud.
She believes there are a significant number of people on AISH who aren't disabled enough to actually be getting full support.

In a rare twist..
Smith had nothing but good things to say about a judge.
Although she claims that the report provided by the Electoral Boundary Commission was actually 3 reports and that's why they need to strike a balance now.

It's just so unabashed now...
Smith says that going forward she may consider only looking at people who can vote when it comes to constituency maps, not population.
So if you aren't a full citizen, your concerns & issues aren't worth representation apparently.

Smith claimed today that the reason that Supervised Consumption Sites had to be closed was because people were going there "for dugs"...
(No drugs were handed out, people went to use)
And they were accessing to many other support programs.
For real.
Listen to the clip.
Today Smith revealed more of her plan for emergency healthcare...
Removing the expectation that everyone deserves access to emergency care from professional colleges if a patient is behaving badly.
So hypoglycemic & postictal patients are out of luck?

Lotsa DM’s asking what people can do to hold Smith to account…
Anyways, on an unrelated note, her radio show is back Saturday at 10 AM.
Well just uh…
We’ll just leave this here.

Asked about the electoral boundaries decision, Smith talked about the importance of quality representation in rural Alberta, citing her own communities.
She described the "midsize" Medicine Hat and the "large community" of Brooks.
The Hat is over 3 times the size of Brooks.
Looks like Rob is back to demonizing journalists for telling the truth.
Which is a hallmark of what kind of government again?

Smith on why she's introducing private health care to Alberta...
She's clear the biggest reason is because she want's to remove "Gatekeepers" (so physicians) from medical testing.
What could go wrong?
#abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli
“Bill 11… allows physicians to treat patients in the public health care system while also charging them fees, creating a two-tiered system for those who can pay and those who cannot.”
Over 50 organizations have written to Ottawa to urge enforcement of the Canada Health Act.
If you want a jaw dropping exploration of how authoritarian Alberta has become over the last 4 years…

Special episode!
On March 10th, CoRE published a paper that the UCP then used to justify shuttering Supervised Consumption Sites.
But there's some big problems with that paper & how it was spun.

The UCP are defending their move to gerrymander electoral maps in Alberta by invoking this section from page 66 of the report.
It is the recommendation of only one member and is provided “for the express purpose of dissuading the Legislature from accepting the minority report.”
