Interestingly enough, the one question where people are skeptical of AI progress is the one about whether we'll reach AGI in the next 10 years, where the data is more ambiguous.
Could be that AGI is something only AI labs are actually interested in, while "regular" users just want better tools…

Looking at the data I've collected so far for the State of AI survey (ongoing), people are definitely using AI more and more! Every single datapoint is more or less pointing in that same direction.
You can take the survey here:

I’m proud of you!
Like many others right now, I'm struggling to manage thousands of lines of code hastily written by a brainless entity that only cares about making things work on the surface, without any care for maintainability or quality.
Huh? What do you mean, AI? No I'm talking about my own code here.
The State of AI 2026 survey is now open!
AI has changed a lot since the initial 2025 AI survey, so it's going to be very interesting to see how things have changed:

Comment “cupboard” and I’ll send you my FREE exclusive PDF on how to get your kids to occupy as little space as humanly possible
Week 187 of rearranging our apartment’s furniture hoping to randomly land on the exact configuration that opens a portal to the fabled Extra Space dimension

Help! My kid just mass-messaged my entire Facebook contact list, including people I haven’t spoken to or thought about in 20 years.
What do I do? Should I fake my own death and change identity??
The worse part: this happened after a 5-min face off between both kids, trying to mend fences between them and finally extricating ourselves from the situation.
I didn’t know I raised The Joker
I learned a valuable parenting lesson today: never badmouth a kid to your own child, because the little gremlin will turn around and repeat what you said out loud right to that kid’s parent’s face-and cite you as the source.
they probably do!
It occurs to me that the Iranian government could make a lot of money by betting on the stock market based on their own peace talk announcements…
there would definitely be a sense of poetic justice to enemies of America using capitalism to fight it.
Four-year-old said her underwear was not folded properly, took it all out from its drawer, and is now re-folding it herself ❤️
if you update node as well then that's your whole week figured out!
Protip: if you're struggling to get back in the flow after a long time away from a project, just `npm install`. Guaranteed to give you something to work on.
Watching Invincible be like:
"I am Glorbox, a metaphor for the externalities of industrialized…"
*gets squished by an even larger monster*
"Behold, it is I, Blargon, the avatar of venture-backed capitalistic greed!"
*Invincible proceeds to punch stuff*
I just saw a commercial for a Japanese sports betting app where an office worker declines lunch with her colleagues because she sneaks away to spend her lunch breaks betting on her phone.
…and that was presented as a *good* thing
My prediction: in a couple weeks the U.S. will unilaterally declare “mission accomplished” in Iran, pointing to all the death and destruction as proof of success after weakening Iran, yet accomplishing no meaningful regime change.
Gi but I much prefer nogi. I find it easier on the body.
Third BJJ class in the bag since restarting.
I took an 8 year break (!) which sounds like a lifetime, but somehow everything still feels familiar.
Just trying not to injure myself now that I’m officially Middle Aged…
I don't say it (well, not that I have anybody to say it to here anyway), that's how I know I'm old…
At this point “bro” has essentially become a grammatical marker for inter-male speech.
Meanwhile in French “gros” (literally “fat guy”) seems to be getting popular again, likely because it sounds similar to “bro” and plays the same role.
From time to time I like to rewatch this documentary about U.S. politics

Preventing WMDs, “god is in our side”… it’s basically the lega-sequel to the Iraq war at this point.
Somehow the image of people dancing to AI-generated music and AI-generated visuals feels really dystopian..
Japanese banking sites all implement this great emergency security feature that logs you out and wipes all current session information with the press of a single button. It's called the バックボタン
Opening Facebook is always a weird experience. Half the posts are from people I don't even follow, and the other half I do follow–but I completely forgot who they are…
The biggest selling point for autonomous military AI: it can commit war crimes and no one from the military has to go to jail! Think of the possibilities!
Somehow "we'd be delighted to have the Department of War use our AI for spying and killing, but please make sure it's properly supervised while doing so!" has become the "moral" position. The bar is on the floor…
