also this game plays a chiptune version of bolero at one point. that, and how unapologetic the two girls are, should be enough to sell it

there's a neat double meaning with the title 殺す魔法少女. you'd think it means they'd be killed and discarded once the government doesn't need them, but the plot drives them into killing their coworkers to keep their lives from spiralling out. not sure how i'd handle it. Magical Girls Are Killer?

instead, becoming magical girls is soyun and ayon's chance to not be stuck dealing with workplace gossip and gender hierarchies for the rest of their lives. because this game is korean, the politics that permeate its writing is novel to me and i liked that a lot.

with the media i'm used to, the 31yo magical girls gimmick would emphasize how our leads are past their prime and magical girls is a way to relive their youth. here the number just means they've been in the workplace for a while and they're unable to rise through the ranks because they're women.

it's all morbid but handled in a way that never becomes edgy due to the punchy japanese script that actually reads well despite the chinese kanji font issues and a stray \n or untranslated korean word here or there.

hilariously, the reason our two magical girls keep commuting to work despite receiving a 1億 yen stipend for signing the mahou shoujo contract is because that amount of money isn't enough to buy a condo in seoul apparently.
