Still, good news about the steak and eggs

It’s as obvious Thomas Frank is the wrong guy after a draw against Burnley as it was after a defeat by West Ham and a win against Dortmund. We shouldn’t be making decisions based on single results. The overall body of evidence is overwhelming.

This is not some lazy “farmers league” slight on the rest of Europe. And I totally get the main reason - the PL’s unhealthy financial dominance. But Wolves probably gave us a harder game than Dortmund or Villarreal, who are 2nd & 3rd in their respective leagues

I’ve seen a lot of Champions and Europa League games at Spurs over the past 18 months and it’s striking how we - a legitimately poor Premier League team - have been superior in basically of them. Do think there’s a gap in physicality and intensity between PL and other leagues now

I’ve reluctantly been in the “Frank isn’t the man but you probably have to give him until the end of the season” camp until now. But he can’t survive that result and performance. It’d be borderline negligence to let him continue

Did I miss anything?

Tempted to say 2025 was a fairly unremarkable year but: 1) I finally saw Oasis live; 2) I finally saw (from afar) Spurs win a trophy. So, actually, pretty remarkable

I didn’t love watching that, to put it mildly, but we just about deserved it in the end. My note of positivity… I’m not a great Richarlison fan but that might have been his best performance in a Spurs shirt

Merry Christmas to you too, sir. Enjoying Skippy and Winks?

That said, two issues with this: 1) Do we want to spend money under this manager in Jan? 2) People paying £££ for tickets deserve better than putting up with another six months of football by numbers

I was pretty much done with Frank after the Fulham game and remain unconvinced he’s a Tottenham manager. That said, the sensible move is probably to give him this season to prove his worth (or otherwise) then choose from a deeper talent pool of coaches in the summer…

The comparison with Son is obvious (and uncanny) but for me the dominant physicality displayed by Micky tonight was reminiscent of Bale at his peak. A player on another level in terms of pace and power and he knows it

Generous, limited opposition but that was actually fun. A genuine buzz around the stadium second half - helped by Van de Ven’s goal, which was quite a moment. Good signs from Xavi and Kolo Muani. And having a left-footed left back makes a big difference going forward

This is not “Frank out” - I think he’s a smart enough operator to get it right, with time - but I do think the horrible style of play and terrible home form mean he’s under a lot more pressure, already, than most observers outside Spurs realise. Two more home games this week…

I have been - and am still - very pro-Frank. But this style of football as a Tottenham manager just isn’t sustainable. He won’t last long if he doesn’t adapt - though I’d still have faith that he’s a bright coach who can and will do that

Spurs fans way too negative, too soon about Frank. Nobody wants to hear it but a new manager starting from scratch has to be given time. Top 6 and unbeaten in CL… it could be worse. I do accept the style of play must improve, though. People won’t accept watching this all season

These Champions League games feel so low stakes. Just exhibition matches before the real business kicks in after Christmas. Essentially, unless you really mess up, you’re playing for the right to get two midweeks off in February.

The most Brennan Johnson performance ever

You know that thing about the good referees being the ones you don’t notice? Well, I’ve noticed this bloke in the first half

The most taken aback I’ve been by a Spurs announcement since Poch went. I think it’s the right time (and probably was a couple of years ago) but Levy leaves us in a far better state than he found us. He deserves plenty of credit to go with the brickbats

Feel sorry for Mathys Tel but not sure Thomas Frank had much choice but to leave him out of the CL squad. Had to be him or Odobert. Fact it came down to a call between two players we’ve signed in past 12 months for a combined £55m hardly signals a joined-up recruitment strategy

I’ve seen (and heralded) too many false dawns to get too carried away but what was so impressive today about Spurs was the level of control. A grown-up, proper performance. And if we keep those two centre backs fit with Palhinha in front of them, we’ll be just fine

What does “preparing” a transfer bid mean? Are they counting the money, penny by penny? Rehearsing a Dragons Den-style pitch? Making sure there’s ink in the fax machine? Getting the biscuits in?

My usual attempt at this, but feels more difficult than previous years. I’ve had money on City to win it, and fear Arsenal might, yet if Liverpool add Isak and maybe Guehi to that team, how can they not win it again?

Named him for missing the penalty but not scoring a goal…

I think it’s poor, personally. But have a feeling I’m in a minority #THFC

Too much time supporting a club is spent moaning - moaning about players, moaning about managers, moaning about transfers. But great players doing great things enrich our lives, make our weekends. Son made weekends better for me. It’s been a privilege & a pleasure to watch him

But yes, Son was more loyal - admirably so!
