8. The Education Committee recommends the continuance, as well as the expansion of the non-profit book store already under way and that provisions be made to provide local union libraries with books at cost. This book store should stimulate cultural activities for our union through the preparation of exhibits displays, etc. The book store should serve to disseminate information regarding the establishment of credit unions and other forms of cooperative endeavor. Adopted.

Just learned that in 1944, the @uaw.org fought book banning in Detroit, when the city banned the novel Strange Fruit for portraying an interracial romance. The UAW and the Detroit Public Library teamed up to overturn the ban.
