What are you talking about? The top article over there is "earth" and it accurately states that the earth is round before diving into a definition of hermaneutics that explains creationism.

How a New Hampshire libertarian utopia was foiled by bears Seriously, this happened. You should absolutely read about it.

Seems fine. Polar bears are more relaxed than black bears, right?

We have to fill out pink cards every year. Every year they ask for our son's pediatrician's phone number. Every year I have a good laugh. You think you can just call a doctor's office? Just ring them up, tra la la?

He hasn't actually had a conversation with a friend since 1998 so that tracks.

Cuomo is out there talking about protecting unhoused people by inventing a whole new bureaucracy to dismantle rent stabilization by making everyone prove their income every year. But I'm sure its his use of "unhoused" that is not resonating with voters.

I know. But that doesn't make it easier as a parent (who by definition is behind the curve and understands nothing) to convince a teenager that my knowledge and insight is more reliable than what his friends are watching on tiktok.

He's little extra, in the grand scheme of things, but I think a lot of people have the same general reaction. There are so many rules to follow so they just give up.

Ooh! Can you vibe code a settings option that will let me turn down the AI prompts in Notion?

I have a teen who will go to bed without dinner because tortellini with pesto doesn't have enough protein and it's just going to fill him up. He would 100% absorb this information and say he is just going to eat Takis because frozen spinach doesn't have fiber.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure their next move is going to be explaining that chewing releases/produces important enzymes that are beneficial for digestion and somehow fiber figures into that equation. Maybe fiber is an enzyme in that parallel reality?

Pull ups are one of my goals for 2025 and I keep a band on a bar in my hallway. I was weirdly gratified when a visiting 16yo said "oh! We have these at school" and used my pull up assist band to do two. I assumed that a healthy 16yo boy would easily crack out ten.

Why do I feel compelled to defend not being able to do a pull up?

DC is so scary and crime riddled that no one is safe except for the nonagenarian hippies. They're safe. Just no one else.

Libre Office is really good these days.

I assure you, that was sarcasm.

I definitely read it the first three times as "I cannot have a conversation without all of these authors assembled" and I honestly felt a little bad for the guy.

He clearly did not like her. He maybe thought he could like her. But he didn't.

My sister and I barely get along half the time. The way we shouted in unison when our mother tried to defend the book surprised even us.

The actual policies are things like making sure that opportunities training that might lead to promotion are widely publicized, but if you say that in an article, it just sounds ridiculously non-controversial. Which is why it needs to be actually said.

What policies are we talking about? Do they have a quota for people of color in leadership positions? (No, they do not) Or do they have a committee somewhere that makes sure staff from a wide range of religious backgrounds feel comfortable working in their uniforms?

Instead they're two-sidesing the story without adding any information: Costco says "we're not the asshole" while a bunch of people in power say "actually, they're the asshole." That's the whole story, basically every time.

The AG letter is designed to be menacing, to scare companies without Costco's backbone and legal team into avoiding anything that might smell like "DEI." Every newsroom should be calling them out for not saying what these supposedly unfair practices are.

8 months ago 0 0 1 0

Somebody on here tried to tell me it's fine and normal for AGs from nearly half the states in the union to tell Costco that their DEI policies are wrong, without saying what's wrong with them. And it's fine for newsrooms to keep reporting this as a controversy with two sides.

8 months ago 0 0 1 0

It's not true that the AG letter doesn't actually say what Costco is doing wrong? Or it's not true that it's noteworthy for 19 AGs to write a letter to a major corporation that says "you better stop that" without actually saying what they need to stop doing?

8 months ago 1 0 1 0

Which is not true?

8 months ago 0 0 1 0

Sure. And it is genuinely noteworthy that the 19AG letter doesn't say what they actually want Costco to stop doing. It's ridiculous that Forbes didn't say that. It's ridiculous that most reporting on DEI never defines it in a meaningful way.
