Drove me nuts that schools want parents (in high school!) to monitor these systems. First kid had teachers that were constantly putting in blank grades, late with grading, etc leading to a mess of little panic episodes. With second kid we never did access any of it. She's at an Ivy now.

What you want won't materialize with homeless campers all over town. We used to have it and other cities do too at present, but they don't have our current situation. Vancouver BC has managed to have homeless drug users cordoned to one spot and that has worked well to support a vibrant livable city

Reading from Portland this thread is kinda nuts ....our own Mayor Wilson is hated by Portland socialists for a similar shelter plan. They DSA leaders started off by saying "we don't want homeless people jailed" and now they are on a "we don't want camp sweeps"kick, though there have been no arrests

This is not his job, nor is it the city's. The county handles most homeless service money and behavioral health treatment. Why is it fine for the socialist mayor Wilson in Seattle to pledge the opening of 4,000 shelter beds??

And btw? They aren't paid mostly through tips on the west coast, just saying. That would be in place where they make a tipped minimum hourly, can be as low as $2/hr or some such. Portland & Seattle waiters make more per hour than in NYC.

Go to Paris! They ask for tips now too. And my god they hustle. It reminded me of the US in the 1980s. Seems like they did away with the stereotypical Parisian wait staff in the last decade.

PPB gets less than 4% of the general funds. Most cities our size have 10 - 15% allocated for police. PPB should have 1300-1500 officers AND the infrastructure (admin staff) to support them.

But clearly it isn't this specific term that irks, it is the general idea.

I agree with Beshear that the justice language is irritating. It reminds me of the corporate speak people used so freely in the 2000s without realizing they sounded empty-headed.
