Awesome!
SO MANY OF MY FRIENDS
YAAAAAAAAY
Right? Like, we could do so much better.
I am very spoiled, because @andrewkarre.bsky.social lets me keep them, and Penguin Canada let me talk them into it, but this is with someone new, so I knew there'd be some compromises.
They never are. lol
OKAY, time for some decompression from The Rage. (Earlier I had to STET "high school seniors" as a replacement for "grade 12 students", so I have earned a break and also a cookie.)
After we make copy editor accept the non-sibilant hiss, can we make a rule that ordinal numbers are always digits?
It’s fancy because it’s from all over the place. Well, all over the time. But the copy editor wants me to take out the second "the".
it's her job to not have a soul it's her job to not have a soul it's her job to not ha---
Do all copy editors just hate past perfect? Did it kill their dog or something?? IT'S A PERFECTLY GOOD VERB TENSE.
A copy editor wants me to change "a few centimetres" or "an inch", and I am annoyed about it.
This is my trial.
Growing enough to realize that cynicism isn't, like, a marker of intelligence or depth or whatever is my favourite character development.
Whoever manages to give me both will have my heart forever. I mean, besides T Kingfisher, obviously.
they are also too expensive. that is a good point.
Beavertails are too hot and too thin. Without Nutella, they are nothing.
yeah, this is too stressful for copy edit tv. we're going back to farmhouse facelift. 90s "neutrality" sucked donkey balls when i was living through it.
Tollan: We are super neutral, so we're going to have a fair trial about who gets to keep this body, the mass murdering warlord who stole it, or the teenager he stole it from.
Me:...
Tollan: Also we're still not going to help Earth at all.
Me: I don't remember agreeing with Jack this much in 2003.
Let's do Stargate and copy edits. Today we're starting with Pretense, which means I can get mad at the Tollan again, and then turn it off, because: Urgo.
ALSO, this is why the Evening Question "How will you know you've succeeded?"//"How do you define success?" is important, because the goalposts keep moving, and you just have to keep going. My answer hasn't changed in 5 years, but before that, it was different every time a book came out.
Thank you!
I don't really consider myself successful (I'm on the healthy side of precarious, but still precarious), so finding satisfaction outside of capitalism is key to going forwards with art.
And luck. Oof. Luck. *buys potatoes for reasons*
I saw that yesterday, and A was all "well, you did call him Scruffy Robert Pattinson for the first 10 hours". 🤣
Give me Willow, please.
Moooooooood
@mostlybree.kitrocha.com can you remind me about the cheese grater?
Canadian spring is a total crapshoot outside of, like, Vancouver. Everyone seems to forget that spring starts mid-May in Ontario. This weather is exactly what I was expecting.
At least we only have to get to Little Catalina. Everyone else at the conference will be hoping to fly home.
Me, currently on vacation in A's town: This is so calm and relaxed compared to the shenanigans in Ontario. 🤣
It's doing the same thing at home, which makes me feel a little better. Lol
Definitely planning a "stuck in St. John's" contingency for tomorrow, though. 😱🥶
