Prince - U Got The Look (Official Music Video) YouTube video by Prince

Prince died 10 years ago today.

This might be my favourite of his music videos (and songs):
That thing where they used the vastly superior extended 12", and not the less interesting album version.

I love the mix of Star Trek, a romantic 1960s chorus and a late '70s disco beat.

For some shots in the film, Kong was played by actor/playwright Will Shephard. Will played Kong as he broke through the wall, climbed the World Trade Center, and fell from the Twin Towers.

I love this shot from Rambo II, in which a helicopter flies across the screen. It's a static, locked-off shot, but somehow they got the real helicopter to bank, wipe and clear the frame at the perfect diagonal angle. All filmed in-camera.

5 cable-controlled masks gave Kong a wide range of expression: 1 was for "normal" looks, 2 was fixed in a partial roar, and 3 opened in a full roar. 4 was sans cables for long shots where the cables had to be hidden.

A legendary, near five-hour work from Joe Dante and rarely screened, if ever, in the UK. If you want to see it, this is your only chance for a long time.

The film is a world building/production design and set decoration masterpiece. The detail is eye-watering. Look at these arcade machines and their name in this couple-of-seconds-long shot in the movie.
