Since I've been taking a closer look at The Boys, I've noticed that its parodies of established superheroes hardly ever really read as such. You have to squint pretty hard to get that "Payback" is a jab at the Avengers.

(Whereas the show's political satire is the most on-the-nose stuff possible.)

Ford completely abandoned making regular cars in favor of trucks and SUVs. Last I checked, BYD still makes affordable sedans.

“Don’t you know who I am?” he roared. “I’m the Red Ogre, bitch!”
Xero rolled his eyes. “You’re the Red Ogre Bitch?”
Someone started laughing hysterically.
Xero sighed. “Hey, Killfile.”
“Okay,” Killfile managed, “that was a good one, kid!” He tousled Xero’s hair for good measure.
“Sure. Whatever. Are you gonna help or what?”
Killfile hung his head, annoyed. “Fiiiine!”
In one smooth motion, he pulled out one of his pistols and shot Red Ogre. Red Ogre grinned, revealing the bullet he’d caught in his teeth.

I just had to work in a jab at the Juggernaut from X-Men: The Last Stand.

A local antique shop had the paperback novelization of the 1980 Flash Gordon movie, which became the latest addition to my collection of cheesy movie novelizations!

A Chessex dry erase battle mat, with a crude outline of a town square and many paper minis of superheroes about, plus several of weird robots trying to surround them.

Finally getting into it, and shit's going down on Starborn Island, with Captain Eagle and the Z Squad attacking, and Warden robots from One Humanity descending to cause more chaos and destruction. Little does Captain Eagle realize, Mirrorshard is impersonating Null.

I’d only really heard critiques of it in terms of how it fails to accurately analyze folklore and ignores women, but the video makes a compelling argument for it sucking as a story template as well.

Badly Breaking David Lynch is known for not explaining things. In one interview he famously said that Eraserhead is his “most spiritual film,” and when the interviewer asked him to elaborate, he simply said, “No.” ...

New on ClockworkAvocado.com, a look at Breaking Bad, its fandom, and how it was part of the prestige TV trend that David Lynch was (arguably) satirizing in Twin Peaks: The Return.

Your Glasses Got Worse On Purpose How an Italian orphan built a $27 billion monopoly that controls the brands, the stores, the lenses, and the insurance.

So basically, if you need eyeglasses, just pay an optometrist for a prescription--I got mine at Target for like $40--and use it to order from one of the many online glasses stores not owned by EssilorLuxottica. Glasses just aren't that expensive to make.

Marvel Suffers Layoffs in Wake of New Job Cuts at Disney - IGN Layoffs have reportedly affected most departments.

Marvel had a pre-visualization department that employed people much more consistently than is the norm for Hollywood. It's why the movies have such a consistent look (for better or for worse), and now those people will be more precarious contractors because money.

I finished the main series of The Boys (comics), and I think the only thing I liked was the bit where in a WW2 flashback it shows just how disastrous supes without military training turned out to be. The ending was just insulting, and I don't expect much from the Dear Becky epilogue comic.

I wanna point out that “inside job” would be 内部反抗 and not 内部の食事, but I’m guessing the overly literal translation is on purpose.

The movies apparently take place in the most insane period of galactic history. It goes:

Old Republic: 10,000 years
Empire: ~30 years
New Republic: ~30 years

Then whatever the hell is going to happen with both the New Republic and the First Order gone.

Rewatching The Boys and it's impressive how with Stormfront they managed to capture everything that's awful about nihilistic alt-right shitposters. She has this incredible ability to pretend to be stupid at the most annoying possible moments, and acts like disagreement is proof of mental deficiency.
