Schmigadoon! review – cancelled TV show given hit-and-miss Broadway resurrection Apple’s spoofy musical comedy series makes a natural leap to the stage but often struggles to bring much that feels new to the material

In my capacity as a theater critic (?!), I reviewed SCHMIGADOON! on Broadway, which is both a more natural home for it and also not quite distinct enough from its TV version. www.theguardian.com/stage/2026/a...

hahaha I'm reading this in a Jim Downey "Jeffrey Epstein... the financier?" voice. But no, Michael Jackson... the famous child molester?

The best thing about MICHAEL is that they screened it for press in IMAX and I realized they were playing SPEED RACER in the same auditorium almost immediately afterward so I stuck around and watched that again.

Screenmaxxing: why Hollywood is supersizing the big screen experience With Imax more popular than ever, a new way to watch movies – HDR by Barco – has been quietly rolling out but what difference does it really make?

Last year Disney had a little cutesy thing on their retro-style FANTASTIC FOUR posters saying the movie was "presented in FantastiVision"... I'm flabbergasted that they're doing their made-up thing IRL with a straighter face and calling it InfinityVision! www.theguardian.com/film/2026/ap...

I was like, "I don't remember putting Pains of Being Pure at Heart on this ipod" and I looked down and it was a Bikini Kill song

Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin made the grossest, gnarliest Mummy movie ever Lee Cronin's The Mummy is a creepy, sometimes ghoulishly funny revival of mummy mythology.

LEE CRONIN'S THE MUMMY is in theaters in just about five hours! It's not unlike his EVIL DEAD movie, and is arguably even nastier, yet I had a much better time with it, maybe because it's a novel spin on the mummy mythology. Here's my review: www.polygon.com/lee-cronin-t...

Quitting doing full-time criticism with its cushy free screenings so I can devote all of my time to Stubsmaxxing

The AMC Stubs A-List membership monthly cost is going up by $2. You could get downhearted about this and all of the costs eating away at you but best to simply redouble your efforts. If you see the allotted ~16 movies a month you can still say you're paying $1.88 per ticket.

Reducing Distractions: Alamo Drafthouse Has Announced That They’re Going To Stop Showing Movies So Customers Can Focus On Ordering Food

“We’re keeping the room extremely dark, all the seats are facing the wall, and babies are not allowed. All that’s changed is that the annoying films that used to make eating in our restaurant a distracting ordeal are finally getting the boot!”

Marisa is going to be out of town for a full week next month but don't worry, I'm already making preparations for a week of solo parenting (I bought tickets to take E to see MORTAL KOMBAT 2 in IMAX)

"I really liked it but it felt LONG." - E agreeing with me twice (I knew she would like it and it somehow feels longer than an AVATAR) about PROJECT HAIL MARY.

'You, Me & Tuscany' is a post-streaming rom-com, treating Halle Bailey with extreme caution Have streaming rom-coms trained audiences to expect less comedy, less conflict, and less fun?

Has Netflix made rom-coms afraid of conflict more aggressive than a cute misunderstanding? More specifically: Wouldn't it make SO much more sense if Halle Bailey was playing a genuine scammer in YOU, ME & TUSCANY? I sure think so. (THE LADY EVE forever!) decider.com/2026/04/09/y...

Samesies. I think I actually like it more than any of his '90s movies!

I don't know if this just indicates what a fringe minority the hardcore rightwingers are, or just my extreme luck, but I've experienced a surprising number of turns like when, e.g., my late truck-driving uncle by marriage volunteered that racial/sexual discrimination has no place in society

I feel a little disingenuous putting it that way, because I'm really very lucky; my Facebook circle is mostly nice & good people, good politics even, I don't have a big Uncle Racist or Aunt Boomer-Grievance contingency. But most of us have, at minimum, that one cousin.

10 years ago, an iconic director made a chillingly prescient psychological thriller Like a lot of current horror movies, The Invitation is about grief. But it's also about a death cult that some will find creepily familiar.

Unsurprisingly, THE INVITATION holds up quite well now that death cults are just like, a faction of people you know on Facebook www.polygon.com/the-invitati...

Rather sporting SNL UK to follow up US-shaming bookings of top-tier rock acts Wet Leg and Wolf Alice with Kasabian, just so we Americans know it's not all roses over there.

I guess most TVs have a function where you can manually tinker with it, though it hasn't quite worked in the right direction with some Blu-rays where I noticed a slight sync problem.
