the Death of Discworld may be my very favorite character in all of fiction

I do not believe there is anything for us after we die, but if there is, he is the anthropomorphic personification I want to take me there

write something terrible, is my advice. like genuinely, just write something god awful. commit to it. you can then spend time making the terrible thing better having already done the hard part of actually writing anything at all.

It was and still is wild how this guy got to be an open Gater, changed or apologized for none of it, and everyone chose to ignore or make defenses for it with KCD2.

The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Clockwise from top left:
1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.”

2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”.

3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.”

4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.

Good day to you. Might I interest you in a drink?

Mayhap you might. Have you any milk?

My son, Ramza, is so based that he would just order milk when we went to dinner in Lesalia. This would always stun the waitstaff, as they had never heard anyone actually order milk!

I'm fairly apathetic towards all things Marvel, but I really enjoyed this game. Not being familiar with the movies might have helped a little (I don't have to worry about characters looking and sounding Wrong).

My church just paid off $1M in debt for 450 families in our city to not be evicted and I’m looking at fb comments and folks are MAD THAT WE DID IT!

They are saying that a church….shouldn’t have paid the debts of people…..because they’re on public assistance.

Truly wild stuff.

Finally bought it. Great music and aesthetics so far. Played about an hour. It's tough, but hoping I can hang with it. The prospect of having to keep track of time is causing some stress.

Subnautica devs v. Krafton ruling is ABSOLUTELY stunning. Start at the top of page 32 and read until the end of that section on page 37.

Krafton CEO was warned by their legal personnel to not follow ChatGPT into what is likely Some Of The Dumbest Legal Shit Ever, CEO believed the plagiarism bot.

Psychology says people who constantly apologize for things that aren't their fault aren't being polite. They grew up in an environment where someone else's bad mood was always their responsibility to ... That reflexive 'sorry' you can't stop saying was never about politeness — it was a survival strategy you learned before you had the language to name what was happening in your home.

I know some people that are definitely apologizing for having C-PTSD.

The response years of psychological abuse ingrained into me was to dissociate. Couldn't escape, dad wouldn't stop yelling the same fucking thing again and again... my shut brain off. I wasn't allowed to do anything else.

People imagine picking up and finding *something better* is an easy solution. But how is that supposed to work, when all your time and energy goes to staying alive? You have almost nothing to set aside to actually fight your way out.

I think I have done that once? They're spiky, so you want ranged attacks on them. It's nice in theory but isn't always easy to fit into my plans. I've had the most success when I have cats that can pee on each other.

Videogames.

The desert is a bad time. I try to prioritize making money to buy water as quickly as I can. If I get a cat with a water ability, I go to the desert.

Even when that happens it's still pretty tough.
