These registers, and their associated SSE2 instructions, use pure 64-bit double-precision.
Wait, it means that, on x86-64, floating-point operations are strict by default, and the old workaround from Java 1.2 is not needed anymore...
... and that's how JEP 306 found its way into Java 17.
Times passes.
Extended instruction sets such as MMX, SSE, and SSE2 are added to newer x86 CPUs.
The x86-64 architecture, also known as amd64, is introduced, and it requires SSE2; the SysV ABI (used by Linux, among other OSes) puts floating-point function parameters in the XMM0-7 SSE2 registers.
To prevent taking a serious performance hit, Java 1.2 allowed an implementation to adopt less strict semantics (unless explicitly required by the strictfp keyword).
That's it. End of the story. Everyone on 32-bit x86 lived happily ever after.
Well, who cares? More precision is always better.
The trouble is that, originally, Java required strict floating-point semantics (I guess to ensure portability and reproducibility across all its supported platforms). Those operations *ought to* overflow. On x86, this required software emulation.
A short thread about JEP 306, delivered in Java 17: openjdk.org/jeps/306.
The x87 FPU on Intel CPUs always uses 80-bit extended precision, and this makes some operations return a numerically correct result, instead of overflowing as they would on 64-bit double-precision floating-point arithmetic.
They look really *delighted*! ๐
What a queen!!!
Your posts would not feel the same with proper capitalisation and punctuation.
I guess most formatters (and the formatting rules they are based on) did not focus on any of these fluent patterns.
I'm comparing this to how nicely Scheme code is formatted.
Socialising with the right kind of people won't drain your energy (or, at least, not as much).
I agree! Don't feel bad, I'm certain you couldn't avoid it.
Happy birthday!
It's okay to be introverted, and to feel lonely at the same time.

Pink. I like how it complements the boots' brown colour.
Our search through the entire RAL catalogue won't be over until we find a perfect match for Cutting Mat Green.
Will her cat like that perfect man, or will he always be the spare human in their shared household?
Blackbirds these days are too smart!
This is mildly upsetting.
It has a "je ne sais quoi" I find triggering.
Vicky from "Small Wonder". She's a white, brown-haired android girl, probably about 8 or 9 years old. She's wearing a red dress with white laces and a red ribbon in her hair. She's staring at something or someone with an expressionless face.
A grey and brown cat sitting on a rubber mat, closely watching over a small patch of grass in a walled garden. She is facing away from us, but we can feel her longing for a blackbird to land again in the grass (most surprisingly, it flew away the moment I opened the window to let her go outside).
I don't think any blackbirds are going to show up again, now.
I was. Thank you again for your kind words!
Thank you for sharing this!
My spouse and I went through a similar experience (less severe than yours, I must admit) during delivery.
It appears to be a game-breaking mechanic. Is this intended for speedrunners? I'm afraid this is going to be patched out in the next release!
Once you master a gender you can equip the freelancer or mime genders and acquire the stat bonuses and passive abilities of all previously mastered genders.
I feel much better about it just because of some processing. I hope it's going to be the same for you, too!
Wait, it's even worse than you think.
I was born in a place that thrives on all kinds of cheese, and I absolutely loathe most of them!
It *did* blow my mind!
I got instantly happier!
