"Like Sunlight, Like Poison" by Stacie Turner is a wonderful creepy story told in an all-too-believable monster voice. Check it out in our issue 28 here:
This story has an understated approach to building really effective horror.
Reality gets blurry when you're playing with "The Numbers" by Susan Taitel Would you want to play yourself in the reality show about your own life?
Here in the midst of April showers, have a rainy love poem by Anna Madden. Read "The Rain Fell Between Us" in our issue 10:

"Personals Ad" by Amanda Mitzel is a deeply weird and unsettling poem that plays with language in ways we appreciate. Check it out in our October 2025 issue:
When I realized what this poem was about, I sat up. The end of it made me gasp.
The lesson of today's poem by Faith Allington is to listen carefully to Sea Witches, even beyond their bargains. They're good at seeing.
In just 308 words, Ai Jiang crafts a beautiful and moving story. Check out "By a Doorstep That Never Receives You" in our 10th issue:
Last week we pointed you to a Mama who scoops out her eyes, and this week we've got another kind of Scoop for you, this time post-apocalyptic. Check out Rebecca E. Treasure's story from October of last year:
Yeah, it's rough out in these non-algorithmic streets. This and mastodon seem to be where the majority of our readers are, though, so shouting frequently is important!
When we asked poetry editors Jess Cho and Angel Leal what they wanted to see in Issue 2, they immediately said things like "VISCERAL VERSE" and "weird queer monsters" and "joy and euphoria" and "MORE POEMS, PLEASE." Poets, you know what to do! Send us your work + spread the word! We pay $50/poem!
Small Wonders is one of my favorite online magazines. It costs half the price of a latte per month, and the beautiful language and cozy bite-sized stories and poems bring ten times the enjoyment as that overpriced coffee drink. Check them out, you won't be sorry.
I'm so excited to share my piece in Small Wonders today! Gender is when your clothes never fit and you're haunted by foxes, I think. Pretty sure that's universal.
“There is someone in our house.”
And it’s probably not who you expect.

We'll do another subscription drive with goals this fall, and you'll see reminders more often about subscriptions alongside story and poem posts from current and past issues. Oh, and we have a discord now! There are special subscriber perks there...

Asking for money isn't easy. We are very aware that there are so many causes, so many fundraisers and people in need right now. We strongly believe art has value, though, and we want to continue bringing you these Small Wonders while paying paying our artists and authors.

One of the lessons we learned is that shouting loudly and *very* often works really well. Our best day of the drive was when we posted every 20 minutes (ish). So we'll be pushing subscriptions and upgrades more often in general and specific from here on out.

Counting generously (with higher tier subscriptions counting multiple times, for example) we snagged 35 new and upgraded subscriptions during the two weeks of the drive. That's not where we want to be for sustainability, but it's a start. So, what's next?

Hey, we did that subscription drive! How did it go? Our goal was 100 new or upgraded subscriptions, and we fell well short of that goal. BUT we learned a lot of lessons and also did a lot of bug smashing on the website and considerably smoothed out the subscription process.

What answers would you have for the fox with no face? "A Noose is a Knot" by MR is a story with teeth:
Take a little time today to sit with "The Universe Ends on a Tuesday" by Aimee Ogden, and then reach out to make contact with another universe or two while you can:
"Birthmarks" by Gordon Brown took many surprising turns we didn't see coming, but still felt absolutely earned. We love a story that can surprise us. Check it out here in our issue 28:
Check out my flash piece, "Our House," free to read at Small Wonders today! So glad this one's out in the world once more, as time returns again as my obsession du jour.
We love how appropriately disjointed "Our House" by Eleanor Lennox feels. The short paragraphs and broken rhythm add to the sense of unease, that something is very not right here:
Remember "If I Had a Time Machine" by Angela Liu? We sure do. Step in our time machine back to issue 10:
"You’re Dead & I’m Safe & Still I Dream Of You" by S.M. Hallow draws interesting lines between dream and reality, past and present. Step into this dream, and don't forget to wake up. It's not a happy one.
