I dunno what I'm hoping to accomplish with this. I just feel the need to get my story out there.
Just know, every forecast, watch, warning, advisory, forecast discussion, briefing or outlook you use to plan your day or events? That's being put together by people that in spite of not being paid...
And we're entering my geographic area's wettest month of the year. Atmospheric Rivers, flooding, snow in the mountains and passes. All of this requires extra messaging. Extra work. On top of the everyday challenges of forecasting.
Yay. More stress.
I have no idea how I'm going to get food for my family next week. No idea how I'm going to take care of this month's rent. What about gas for going to and from work? As a National Weather Service forecaster, I still have to show up and do my job, ALL WITH NO PAY COMING.
This bank, very generously, let me spend what I needed during the last gov't shutdown with no fees. Not this time. Now NOTHING is going through. And the only things they'll tell me is either they're sorry there's nothing they can do or "just keep trying your card".
I'm scared shitless.
I'm an NWS forecaster. Up till now, I've been able to tread water financially, sometimes with a little help from family that really doesn't have the money to give. And my bank has allowed me to overdraft without penalty... until I hit -500. 🧵
