Survey question: Does knowing that Republican State Supreme Court Justice Jimmy Blacklock does not legislate from the bench but rather strictly applies the constitution and laws as they are written make you more likely or less likely to vote for him?
Final note: this survey was clearly biased toward two political candidates- Candy Noble primarily but also a few questions tossed in for Jimmy Blacklock
But of course, unlike a political ad there's nothing to tell me on a "survey" like this who funded it. Who just advertised these candidates to me?

#SurveyDesignLesson conclusion:
As a person taking surveys, its good to know what good/bad survey design looks like as it can often tip you off to biased surveys long before they reveal themselves fully. If they don't care about sloppy data, then ask yourself what purpose the survey DOES serve

survey question: Having learned more about it, if the election for the Texas State House of Representatives from your area was held today, would you vote for... Angie Carraway (Dem), Candle Noble (Rep), Undecided
And the wording of this question gives the game away completely - *having learned more about it* as if anything in this form was a reliable source of information about either candidate

Angie Carraway supports soft on crime policies that put dangerous criminals back on the street to commit more crimes
Angie Carraway and other Democrat campaigns are supported by far-left, out-of-state billionaires like George Soros
Angie Carraway supports Biden-era policies that increase taxes that drive up costs for everyday essentials and kill job growth
At this point I know their game, and watch as they feed me a series of very biased descriptions of positions held by each candidate. This is not an unbiased political poll, this is political propaganda masquerading as a survey

Survey question: Angie Carraway would side with other Democrats who have extreme views such as taxpayer funding of gender modification procedures. Answer options range from More Likely to Less Likely, No Difference, and Unsure
And finally, they drop the act and go all in on being political propaganda

So far I've seen multiple issues with the survey: poorly written questions, questions that are incomplete or out of date, questions that should have been hidden by logic.
Sloppy surveys aren't ALWAYS propaganda, but if the primary point is to propagandize then they won't *care* about sloppy data

Survey question: Candy Noble wants repeat criminals arrested for violent crimes to be held without bond so they are not allowed back on the streets to commit more crimes.
And sure enough, my concerned was well founded. Despite having made clear earlier in the survey that I didn't support Candy Noble as a candidate I was given a question with no clear answer option for 'Not voting for her'.
This is also using an emotional and priming framing for the statement.

Now here is some information from the public record and news reports about the Republican primary candidates for State Representative. For each item, please indicate if that information makes you strongly more likely, somewhat more likely, somewhat less likely, or strongly less likely to vote for that candidate
Next sign that something was off was this instructional page. I'd already told the survey I wasn't voting for Republican candidates, so the assumption built into this wording that I *was* interested was concerning.
Also, I was sent this survey on April 21st. The State Rep primary is already over.

Survey Question: If the election for the US Senate was held today, would you vote for... Ted Brown (Lib), James Talarico (the Dem), John Cornyn (the Reb), Undecided
The first sign that something was odd in the survey was a question that didn't actually list all candidates for the Senate race (as Cornyn and Paxton are currently in a primary runoff for the Rep seat)
Also, the answer options being written inconsistently (Libertarian vs THE Democrat) stood out

Survey question about Ken Paxton, with answer options related to whether the survey taker recognized the named and if they had negative or positive feelings
The survey started normally, asking me about my overall political leanings and my awareness/sentiment related to some TX candidates

Let's have a #SurveyDesignLesson!
Sometimes things are presented in the *form* of a survey, but are actually a way of pushing an agenda. Participants may have their guard down and not be as aware of being advertised/propagandized to when in a survey
Let's walk thru a survey about local TX politics

Think of how many games where the verb is violence. How many games (including the ones nominated for tonight’s BAFTA awards) where you shoot, fight, kill.
But when games want to explore the topic of violence in a meaningful way, that’s the issue?

There are two types of TikTok videos I always comment on:
1) saying ‘Congratulations, doctor!’ on videos of people successfully defending their dissertation
2) saying ‘I’m proud of you!’ on updates on people’s sobriey journeys
Because kind words from strangers matter sometimes 💜

Transgender discrimination is, by its very nature, sex discrimination. Discrimination based on sex is expressly prohibited under Montana’s unique Nondiscrimination Clause––“[n]either the state nor any person, firm, corporation, or institution shall discriminate on account of . . . sex . . . .” Thus, Article II, Section 4 is
unequivocal in its intolerance for discrimination based on sex. Because sex discrimination involves a fundamental right under Article II, the appropriate level of judicial review is strict scrutiny. Snetsinger, ¶ 17.
¶28 Being transgender is also a suspect class under the Equal Protection Clause of
Article II, Section 4,––“[n]o person shall be denied equal protection of the law.”
MONTANA SUPREME COURT: “Transgender discrimination is, by its very nature, sex discrimination,” and is subject to strict scrutiny under the Montana Constitution.

The best leaders in this industry aren’t those who have a hyper-detailed, one-man-show vision of their project. They don’t minimise or claim the work that their teammates do. They are the ones who are excited about what others can bring to the dynamic. Who hold the vision, rather than own it.
